It's just too stupid to use insults based on things people can't change.

I guess I haven't had the exact same experience, but I have been a young woman in a very male world (business law) and I have had to prove myself in ways my male colleagues haven't. If I on top of that had had to hear people say that women lawyers are inferior as some casual insult, I would be very angry.

Mindless order following should be possible to accomplish in other ways.

I assume that's exactly why it's used. If recruits don't rise to that provocation, another element of brainwashing has been achieved.

On top, the whole purpose is to provoke the wolf so Gavin learns to control him.

We can talk about this in a different context but I'm not unfamiliar with your challenge. When I assert my authority one or two people have called me 'drama queen' behind my back; a straight guy would have been seen just very 'assertive.' It doesn't bother me, though.

I agree with Pupilull, and I think the edit works better. Truthfully though, when I first read it, I immediately thought Isaac's hard ass approach was to desensitize Gavin, and I got it, because surely he will encounter worse. I had no problem with it sadly because here, in this culture, it is so very pervasive. It's almost expected. That's just not true for certain military personnel, but the police force and team sports as well. 'They' will deny it's being done, but there are countless stories. We had a school district fire a little league football coach for repeatedly calling the kids derogatory names during practice. They were 10. So you are right, there has to be a better way to achieve the same results.

it seems I'm always going to bed when you log on! We're timewise incompatible. It's like that movie, Ladyhawk. We only get a glimpse in real time before sunrise or sunset part us...

Aww, that is a very nice sentiment. School is out soon so I will have way too much time on my hands shortly, and that may correct itself... I hadn't seen that movie, but I looked it up and surprisingly there's mention of a wolf..

It happens here in Sweden too. That's why I feel silence is so dangerous. Even if I'm not the butt of a joke, I can still react when things go from fun to downright disrespectful. Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but I really don't think so.

Yes, Rutger Hauer as the wolf. Very romantic... I actually had a bit of a crush on him.

You'll have to hang out with us!

No, I realise he's too puny for you. And old now.

I have crushes on the most unlikely people sometimes. I go more for personality and charisma when it comes to actors. For instance, Brad Pitt does nothng for me. Sure, he looks good, but no.

Are you up at the crack of dawn? 3 hr tel co? You have my sympathies.

Got up at 0430 ... and then I was forced to read about 'feline consumption.' ;-) So I had to restore balance with some cute jarheads.

Ouch!

I always hated having clients on the west coast. I could never get anything done, unless I went nocturnal. Which of course I did...

And then I see this ... that's why they call them pups ;-): http://www.11thmeu.marines.mil/News/NewsArticleDisplay/tabid/2683/Article/533705/11th-meu-conducts-combat-fitness-test.aspx (first page)

You focus on the important stuff, don't you? In the penultimate picture, he stands out as well. Lovely plumage... (sorry about the Python references. I can't help it. I'm Swedish.)

Isn't his hair a bit too long, though?

That can be easily fixed (and back in my dirty corner) ...

(that's for fixing the issue, nor for Colt)

I was thinking. We are missing a Colt in our cast. Is that intentional? Would it be ok if I tried to find him? Or would you prefer he remains a man of mystery?

I'd love to see your suggestions. I said in the beginning of the series I leave that one to my readers as most seem to identify with him ...

Ok, here I go! Presenting Colt as I see him. Surprisingly hard to google nerds without just ending up with Ryan Reynolds in glasses...

This is close.

This is another guy, also very close, but only in this picture (he looks like a grizzly nowadays)

If this is "ugly" for you, I wonder how high your standard of "handsome" is ...

But you see, I don't think Colt is ugly. He thinks he's ugly, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's true. There are very few ugly people in my opinion.

Don't want to fall into gender stereotypes  (but doing it anyway): Is that because you are a woman? If a guy hasn't been able to attract the guys he wants until the age of 21, he's either an official serial killer or ugly ;-). I don't think he's been saving himself for the one-and-only ;-).

But I like the casting anyway ;-).
