Popular Post clochette Posted October 14, 2020 Popular Post Posted October 14, 2020 (edited) I'm back at the apartment. Looping too. Despite not having been here since January - early February he isn't perturbed. He made his round, had some kibbles and then went to sleep on the bed. Tonight I took my first pill of a new treatment that promises to make me feel like shit for a couple of days at best. Hopefully having took it at night will prevent most of those unpleasant effects... I hope you're all doing well Edited October 14, 2020 by clochette 4 3
Site Administrator Popular Post Valkyrie Posted October 14, 2020 Site Administrator Popular Post Posted October 14, 2020 Glad to hear Albert and Gary are feeling better I've been pretty busy lately. I unpacked some more horses and sorted through some sales stuff. I'm still going through boxes and reorganizing and finding really cool stuff. I got a couple new lamps, since the cats broke a couple a while ago. I heard from my supervisor and things are still slow at work, so there's still no indication when I will be brought back. I go for routine bloodwork tomorrow am, then I'll do some grocery shopping in preparation for a friend coming to dinner on Friday. My mom is coming over tomorrow to help me get my living room sorted. I made pumpkin chili in the crockpot today. It came out really good. I was drooling all day because the house smelled so good 4 3

We arrived at our hotel in NC about 7pm. We got off to a later start than I'd planned only because it took longer pack the frozen items in the cooler, wash and dry the last few dishes, finish the laundry, etc. The weather was lovely so we stopped at Point of Rocks, MD where the road crosses the Potomac into VA. There is an access point to the C&O Canal trail and also a boat launch. We had no boat to launch but we did spend about 45 minutes walking along the trail. We met and were passed by about a dozen different bicyclists. One group of five guys had camping gear packed on the bikes. I presume they were biking the complete trail. We took time for a brief lunch of an apple, a small package of smoked sausage bites and a trail bar with cold water. Thistle decided he didn't want apple, unusual because he likes them, in preference for the sausage and water. He would have gladly shared in the trail bar but it contained chocolate. It was a pleasant break. Very glad we took the time to do it. It's near enough home I think I'd like to take a day trip there to walk/hike next summer or fall. Needless to say we were tired when we got here. Fortunately I had the foresight to buy a premade chicken ceasar salad at my grocers this morning to avoid the need to go out looking for sustance so was able to relax and eat in the room. Now for a good night's sleep. 1 7

Slowly dismantling the pea and bean supports. The bamboo canes, and the heavier posts at the end of the rows, will be wiped down and stored in the old cottage for the winter, while the dead and dying pea and bean stems are destined for the compost heap (the broad bean stems are quite tough, so may need a good crushing with the lump hammer first). Just in the house for a snack (shortly after 4:00 pm) and then I'll head out and continue the job. I have a (minimum) 2 hour Zoom session starting at 7:30, so must try to at least get dinner prepared beforehand. Otherwise I might have to ring the chipper again once the meeting finishes. Have you considered running over the vines with your lawn mower to chop them up a bit before tossing them into the compost? I do that, just spread them out on the lawn and mow, also use it to chop fallen leaves. The combination of the grass clippings in with the vines and leaves makes for a better composting. The excess nitrogen in the grass helps breakdown the carbon in the leaves and such. 5 1

Had a nice walk through the woods with Cookie, though... although my breathing was labored, which tells me I'm not quite well yet. I wore a wool hat to protect my ears, but it is a warm day. Living each day is an accomplishment. Being able to be outdoors for a walk in the woods is an added bonus. I think you did well. 2 5

It's my endocrinologist's idea to try Metformin (I'll let you look for the side effects). It's usually for type 2 diabetics but for me, who is overweight and has PCOS, it's to lower the insulin and blood sugar levels in hope to regulate my cycles. 7

It's usually for type 2 diabetics but for me, who is overweight and has PCOS, it's to lower the insulin and blood sugar levels in hope to regulate my cycles. I'm on Metformin for my Type 2 diabetes. Another name for it is Glucophage, which basically means sugar eater. As far as I know it doesn't actually lower the insulin level. Type 2 diabetes is caused by the body not responding to insulin as well as it should do, so I reckon it would not be a good idea to then start taking a medicine that actually lowers the insulin level even further... The main job of insulin is to regulate the level of glucose in the blood, causing it to be stored in the cells of the body if the level starts to rise. High levels in the blood, while not immediately dangerous, can lead to long term damage, such as kidney failure (due to the kidneys taking over the regulatory effect by excreting the excess sugar in the urine - hence the old name of "Sweet Pee" to describe the condition), cardiovascular problems and poor blood supply to the extremities (particularly the feet), raised blood pressure, problems with the eyes (could even cause blindness eventually), amongst other things. Metformin keep my blood sugar down at normal levels. It's working so well for me that my doctor tells me after my every 6 monthly blood tests that, if he didn't know I was Type 2 diabetic, the results would indicate I wasn't (if that makes any sense). Fortunately I have zero side effects from Metformin, and I understand that is the case for the vast majority of people who use it. 7

I'm taking it with Duphaston to bring back my "girl problems" as apparently studies show Metformin works to do so 🤷🏻♀️ we'll see how it works 6
