Lot of people booked an appointment but it had to be canceled due to not enough vaccines... The official Irish website is showing that 143,000 people have received their first dose of the vaccine, as of 8:00am this morning. The first doses were administered on the 4th of January. A rough calculation that I have just done suggests that, for our population of approximately 5 million, it will take just over two years to vaccinate the whole population at the current vaccination rate. Hopefully the supply of vaccines will increase in the coming weeks and months... I was talking to someone who lives in France earlier today who said that France has not yet vaccinated one million people, but has indicated it is on schedule to have everyone vaccinated by August. He also said that he reckons the French Health Minister should resign when that doesn't happen... 6

Yeah they're playing cool, like "dont worry, we're on schedule, everything is fine, if there's a problem it's not us it's the vaccine companies who dont deliver on time, blablabla" we'll see 🤷🏻♀️ On tv they show that today was the one year anniversary of the government saying "masks are not necessary" the previous health minister said, a few months after her resignation, that as a doctor she had tried to alert the government, she had said it wasnt just a flu and it could go viral really quickly. Popular Post Marty Posted January 26, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 26, 2021 And I do also worry about the fate of the poorer countries in the world, with the richer countries apparently buying up vast quantities of the vaccines... But I'll say no more, as I am in danger of sounding political. 6

Which meant the roads were safe to transport the Victoria sandwich to birthday boy. It was a pleasant change to visit my social bubble for the first time in over three weeks. We had tea and cake, and enjoyed several hours of pleasant chat. And the cake was delicious! (Even I had to agree with that. ) Perhaps the only sad part of the visit was that birthday boy's younger brother (one of my two male strippers) had to spend a good part of the time stuck in his bedroom doing online classes; as the schools have not yet reopened due to the pandemic. But if school had been open, it is likely I may not have seen him at all. With the number of Covid-related deaths here now having surpassed 3,000, the government this evening announced further restrictions on travel and socialising. They also stated that it is unlikely schools will reopen until the end of March. Hopefully, as the vaccination program moves forward, things will start to improve. It seems as though the biggest roadblock at the moment is sourcing sufficient supplies of the vaccine itself. Although it's looking likely that the EU will approve other vaccines shortly, so maybe that will speed things up. That said, the online "Vaccine Queue Calculator for Ireland" is currently suggesting that it may not be until 4th April before I receive my first dose, even taking into account that I am over 70 and have an underlying health condition. Which means I may still have to be socially isolating for another two months... Glad you were able to get out, visit and eat cake. I am sorry for the delay in getting the vaccine. We're in the same boat. Mum is 85 and has an underlying health. Most places here giving the shot have filled all their available appointments. Most also require you sign up online but since they don't have enough vaccine for everyone many of the websites are closed. I should qualify because of my kidney disease but I am not in the state of my legal residence so ... we're being careful. We hadn't been to church since the first Sunday in January because my head was aching and the reverberation of the organ aggravates the migraine. We count ourselves fortunate because we learned early last week that the pastor has tested positive. He probably got it from the head of the church school who may have caught it from one of the students who had it. Mum gives asthma shots to one of her neighbors every two weeks. Turns out that lady contracted the virus. Fortunately, she and mum have taken precautions and mum seems to have avoided getting the virus from her. It has been three weeks since mum gave her the last injection. The two ladies thought it best if mum didn't do the one this past weekend. 1 6

Well, it would not work on the avatar that was my chizer, cause he got ran over last year and if you poison my Border collie then @Headstall and I would come after you and put a bridle on you while all his cats ride around on your back on top of the saddle they are on that we cinched up on you, leading you around like a small horse! lol 1 2

The two currently available vaccines require two shots but Johnson & Johnson is developing a vaccine that only requires one shot. We should hear more about that vaccine within the next week. However none of them use the actual virus, they were developed using mRNA that triggers the immune response. Using mRNA techniques is common in a number of medical applications and is the reason they could develope vaccines so quickly. 1 5

Well when I told my step daughter in law that I was going to probably get the vaccine, she said to tell her and her and my stepson will be gone cause I will have the virus and they don't want it. But if they don't want it, then why don't they wear a mask out in public? 1 4

But my understanding is that no vaccine, for any disease is 100% efficient. One of the main functions of any vaccination programme is to build such a high level of immunity in the general population (known as herd immunity) that the number of people in the community that carry the virus is lowered to such a low level that transmission becomes much reduced (if not actually eliminated completely). 7
