Scaling creatures like that wouldn't work, namely because an exoskeleton wouldn't be able to handle the increase in weight.

Exactly, it ALL gets bigger.  It's a very simple releasing high speed nuclear reactions releases radiation that kills plants, and large animals, but somehow makes small animals bigger... 👀

The thing about those films is that is actually provides a window into how the general public of the era both simultaneously feared these extremely destructive weapons (and energy source) and yet really didn't understand how they work, how destructive they really are, and what the aftereffects would be.

I think he didn't read the instructions correctly. It's said "to grow up to a normal size adult man, take one every day". Instead it seems he read "send one every day "
