But... *Drums roll 🥁* a lemon seed has sprouted!! Remember how it hadnt after 3 weeks so I had abandoned them in the back kitchen beside the cats food bowl? Well I went to take one of them to use the soil for the zucchinis and here I saw it, alone but fighting, in it's dry soil, a lemon spout about 3 to 4 cm tall 🤩 5

The seeds I've plant today and young tomatoes plants are still in the house, sitting all the end of the table annoying everyone I'm not putting them in the cold frame until it's at least 15°C outside, hopefully in a few days. The herbs (chive, mint and Laurel) are in the cold frame. 4 3

Zucchini and tomatoes are annuals, not perennials, so they need to be replaced every year. I was thinking of planting those two this year, along with basil, oregano, eggplant, and strawberries. Maybe even some corn, if I can find planters big enough. 4 1

It's our first time with zucchinis so fingers crossed. My fear is to only have one gender cause yes one plant is either male or female and they need bugs to do their job to grow veggies or you can make them have sex 1 5

Like most veg, zucchini can get tough, wooden, and bland-tasting if left too long before harvesting. They grow quite fast (about 3 inches a day), so harvest early and often. They should be dark green and firm. If you have more than you can use or give away, you can slow the plants' production by trimming off the flowers. The flowers are also edible in salads and stir-fries. Or, you can fill them with cream cheese, coat them in batter, and deep-fry them. Just make sure to pluck out the reproductive bits before you use the flowers. Edited March 17, 2019 by Page Scrawler 4 2

I’ll plant early lettuce and spinach there, along with basil and parsley I will start under grow lights. The chives, sage and lavender are juuuuust beginning to stir again. 4 3

Well it all depends on where you are on Earth. Imagine poor Gary up there in the big white North... His window for planting must be July and August 1 6

Popular Post Marty Posted March 18, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2019 Hi all. Sorry I've not been active on here for the past couple of days. Been travelling and visiting siblings in England. My mother would have been 97 on St Patrick's day.We all met at her graveside, and then went for a meal to celebrate her life. Here's a photograph of the seven of us in the restaurant after the meal. The youngest of us is 62 and the oldest 78. I'm the middle child of 7. 8
