Page Scrawler Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Until I Meet My Husband, by Ryousuke Nanasaki. As @spike382 would be the first to point out, it sounds like the title of a BL story. But, in fact, it's a memoir. Nanasaki-san is one of two men in Japan—the other being his husband—who were able to have a religious ceremony for their marriage, rather than a civil union at a courthouse. 1

I missed the conversation, but that could be a Japanese BL. Their country is more well known to have more diverse ages and subjects for their storylines. 1 1

Enoch Posted August 25 Posted August 25 This one is multiple parts on YouTube, but it's worth watching. It's named Until We Meet Again.

In fact the Buddhist belief in karma is heavily emphasized in this series, the actions of the two main characters (good or bad) in ending their lives as they do, in some ways negatively impacts their reborn selves. 1
Zombie Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 it is a romantic story key plot point - death by suicide

Zombie Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 this isn’t Shakespeare - it is targeted at teens and young adults, likely watching alone with a ‘happy ending’? 2

The main characters are reincarnations of the people who committed suicide, it’s a fantasy story. And Thai BL puts all the disclaimers they can on every BL series that the subject matter is not meant for younger audiences. Just as the tv or movies get rated in other countries.

It's a good movie and tells a good tale. Very few people would find suicide an acceptable answer to any situation, yet it does unfortunately happen nearly every day. Within the story it clearly makes the point that their actions affected many people who loved them. It actually could convince someone contemplating this action to realize that this irreversible act would cause loved ones unimaginable pain. In fact, the targeted audience — teens and young adults — are the very group that should see and hear the message of this movie: suicide is never the answer. It most certainly does not validate suicide; quite the opposite.

Im not sure that is how I would phrase it. Sometimes other people have gone through or dealt with things that we haven't personally experienced. Doesn't mean they don't like good acting, just means the story might hit a bit too close to home. Take me for an example, I don't like reading stories about younger characters, especially if things turn sexual. That's my own trauma rearing its head. Doesn't mean you can't write a good 13 year old love story, it means I can't comfortably enjoy it. I don't like BL stories, to long on angst and weird drama for me. But that doesn't mean I want them to stop being made. Its just not for me. 1 1

My intention wasn’t to dismiss anyone’s personal experiences or imply they “don’t like good acting.” I was responding to the idea that the series romanticizes or validates suicide, which I don’t believe it does. I appreciate you pointing out how certain stories can hit close to home for different people. That’s absolutely true, and I respect that. My point was simply that the show’s message is the opposite of validation — it shows the pain and consequences clearly, and for some viewers that can be meaningful rather than harmful. But I hear what you’re saying about tone, and I appreciate the perspective. 2

I always say you may need the right sensibilities to get into them. Even somewhat having these, I still struggled a lot with certain elements, many of which they are moving past. But some things they just can’t seem to let go of, especially among the fandom. 2
