AUSTIN, Texas(AP)--A public school teacher was arrested today at Bergstrom International Airport in Austin as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a slide rule and a calculator.

At a morning press conference, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged with carrying weapons of math instruction.

"Al-Gebra is a problem for us", Rumsfeld said. "They use secret code names like x and y and refer to themselves as unknowns, but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, there are three sides to every triangle."

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes." White house aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligant or profound statement by the president.

To prove that reality is stranger than fiction....

When Australia changed over to the metric system, the comedians had a field day over the fact that dual measurement rulers (ie. with both metric and imperial measurements) had become illegal imports -- joining guns, bombs, narcotics, ....

Thought this would be a good time to drop this one------------------------

A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the

Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.

He asked, "What are all those clocks?" St. Peter answered, "Those are

Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the

hands on your clock will move."

" Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?"

"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she

never told a lie."

"Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?"

St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved

twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life."

"Where's President Bush's clock?" asked the man. "Bush's clock is in

Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan.

Way Cool!

Mathematical Subversives!

Flaunting their radical symbols and difficult ideas... I can see why the Asshat-in-Chief and his little dog Rummy might have a problem with it.

Hi, Narc ---

Congrats on 100 posts. I'll bet your next hundred will come even quicker.

GA is outstanding in my book! The stories are great...but it's the TERRIFIC PEOPLE that post in the forums that make me log on to GA more than any other site now.

BTW, Congratulations on your story, Narc. I'm loving it! And you get extra points from me for using Evanescense music in Chapter 5. :great: Don't you dare stop writing!

When I was a kid there was serious movement to 'to go metric.' That's why today liquor and wine is packaged in ml/liters. However, Congress, in their wisdom, rescinded legislation because there was too much backlash from the public about conversion. :sheep: People felt that it would just be too hard to learn.

:2thumbs: Love that spoof on Al-gebra. Al-gore should be careful in this day and age. And that other one on the lying clock made me almost choke on the chocolate I was munching on.

What do people mean it's difficult to convert to metric?

Mile>Km just divide by 0.6214

Pint>Litre just multiply by 3.7854

Pound>Kg just divide by 0.4536

It's elementary maths, not weapons of maths destruction! :P

UM UM I think that is

Gals (US Liquid)>Litre just multiply by 3.7854

Gals (UK Liquid)>Litre just multiply by 4.5460

PS just wait until you have to convert US cups to English cups to Metric cups To New Zealand cups. That is mind confusing

I've pretty well spent most of my life with the metric system, but for some reason I still think of people's heights in feet and inches. It's the ONLY thing that I don't think in metric... and I really don't know why.
