Chapter 1: Scandal Candles
Timothy M. commented on AC Benus's story chapter in Chapter 1: Scandal Candles
I love how you hint at so many interesting aspects of that time and place. From the casual acceptance of a same-sex relationship, to Betty's thought about people back home being aghast about her working with 'those categories' of people. Somehow it feels as if we haven't progressed much since 1945. although today it may be other categories held in distrust or disgust. I also noticed the different ways of treating your employers and customers, both the good and the bad. Others have remarked on the good stuff, but one bad thing stood out to me: the discrimination of married women, not letting them work as sales persons, even if they had the position previously. Quite ridiculous! In Denmark, the girls manning the telephone switch boards were dismissed when they got married, which was quite unfair - but on the other hand, it meant that women who had no men to 'keep' them, had the possibility to get an income. -
Sigh, what a horrible end for Jae, and Dave will have to live with the knowledge that his one stressed, intolerant outburst set this fate in motion. But I'm glad Terry is there to comfort him, and I wanted David to return for Terry's sake. We know he liked him, in fact Jae told Dave so.

Tillykke med fødselsdagen ! Happy waving of Danish birthday flags (I hope you notice this topic at some point)

Mr. Oblivious finally gets it.

I think it's amazing you're finding the time to be active here with all that stuff going on, and don't worry about things being a little late or imprecise. Real life is more important after all, especially when it affects your mental well-being. Let us know what we can do to help, and take care.

Thanks northie, I'm pleased you weren't bored with all the background stuff, I had a lot of fun coming up with that. And I'm all you liked the genderneutral pronouns, and yes they did fade into he and his as Angel transitioned mentally towards a closer relationship with Imp. he would never be comfortable being friends with a female Angel. I shall aim to get a sequel done by Valentine's Day, but no promises. Hopefully, inspiration will strike.

I think you may be right, at least about the Powers That Be. The Senior Management may be as blindsided as Angel and imp - unless they're used to seeing their A.I. teams end up like this. If so it certainly wasn't covered in the curriculum. I'm making a note of the pitchfork risk and will do my best to avoid it. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Yup the rose did it for me too, I knew you were doing a Sasha cross-over. Always makes me sad to see those insecure guys who pose and bluster to cover up the lack of self-worth. If he had only had one close and clever childhood friend who could have called him on the stupid behavior and given the support he needed to relax, he would be much happier and so would everyone around him.

That's what I've been waiting for. If Alan's parents are healthy enough to drive around the country, they should be able to look after the boys too. Or at least be the ones to take up the fight with Craig's parents, since I seem to recall Alan didn't want his mum there on a permanent basis. But I think Lisa could benefit from some motherly caring.

I was wondering why people were commenting on dejavu, and I finally read the story note. To be honest I had quite forgotten the prompts and I find it quite hilarious that I made the same comment back then about the flu. But at least I'm consistent. And I'll maintain flu in itself is not dangerous to young healthy people, but it may pave the way for something worse and potentially deadly. Sorry to hear about yor wife, Jeffrey, sounds like this happened to her. I was thinking meningitis because I know of two cases where young men in their prime got this, and the symptoms were like you describe. One of them went home to bed and was found dead two days later. The other did the same but had someone come round to visit, and they got him to hospital just in time.

Hey Northie, welcome to the red. Not red as in the verimeter, but GA Authors. I like SF, and particularly robot stories, and this one was fun - but with a nasty twist. I'm glad they finally caught this slimy guy.
-
Ohhhh, Nassau in a rage - so sexy. But I agree with the sensible Gate Guard. We don't want him in another bad mood because Kiorl and the fallen angel bought it.
-
Loved the story, right up till the word 'flu' I was expecting something serious like meningitis. But at least Rob finally gave in to the inevitable - not that I blame him for keeping his distance before then.

Than you, Def, I loved you noticed the Dom bomb. And I may let you be a fly on the wall at the Dotty encounter. You have a good point about the maternal instincts, there's a reason Isa and Benedicte are called Mama Bears. But the cubs have to deal with life on their own eventually, although in this case they're not really on their own. As you say, they have two loving men at their sides. I laughed at the comment about coffee, tea and cake, Danes are famous for bolstering any social situation with food and drinks, even the most awkward ones. But you're right about it being no comfort here.

Thank you, dragon, I'm all at all the compliments. You've explained my intents with this chapter and the whole story much better than I could, and I love how you see the small details which felt important to me, even though I didn't really put it into the context you did in your review. Your comment about the twins taking control was especially significant, because the whole story started with Russ losing control of his life after Evan tried to take control of his future in the fight with his father. Isa may have had good intentions but ripping the twins apart, both in high school and for this summer, was a terrible decision. Russ lost momentum and motivation and Evan lost the solid base he depended on. But at least they had two wonderful men to rely on the second time, and they can look forward to a joint future. A special thanks for your compliment of the writing, I work hard to improve (with the help of AC and Kitt), and it means a lot to be told the writing adds to the enjoyment.
-
Thanks, Parker, I think you may be right about the effect on the grandparents, or at least we may hope so. I'm glad you approved of Evan's plan, it came out of the blue but he insisted (he may have stamped his foot a bit in my head, lol). It was lucky Chris has had plenty of experience in social chitchat and dealing with disapproving grandparents.

Thank you, Jay, very happy you're giving this story a try and liking it too. Did you stumble on it because I posted a chapter? Don't forget to visit the story topic where all the extra info and fun discussion happens. Yes, the twins are definitely mutually dependent.
-
Thank you, LL, I'm delighted the twins and their men can still bring you happines and Yes, let's hope Kristin takes Tor's defensive action the right way. We want him to stay in the story so we can a bit more. Evan and Russ are both maturing, but they still fall into their old roles of Evan leading (with the wild ideas) and Russ supporting. But I think they love being able to do this again. You could even say they are showing Isa that they are capable of taking matters into their own hands and be caring and protective of her too. Plus, if she doesn't tell them stuff beforehand, neither will they.

I agree with my Swedish friend, it's about time the Card brothers arrived. And I wish Cory and Efrain would come out to everybody on the team. I'm also gonna ask Cory to sic Lola on Indie and Preston if they don't get their shit together and admit they're boyfriends.

So much worse than expected. If David had stayed at home, he would have been able to imagine Jae being alive and well with Jim. On the other hand, he has probably saved Jim's life, and at least he'll have closure and hopefully an explanation.

OK, now I remember why I got pissed off with Shawn. it wasn't because he was a wuss. The epic finale of the story made up for his earlier mistake.
