We have both competitive trail riding and something we call a hunter pace. Split what Gary did into two separate divisions. The specified gates, obsticles etc are the comp trails, and a path with spaced out jumps ( with bypasses for western riders/ those who don't wish to jump) for optimum times.

My lessons or the horses? Fell off twice in one lesson when I was a beginner, both my stupid mistakes. I quickly learned the true meaning of "Look up, stay up, look down fall down". Three times when training a huge QH ( the first one I ever taught to carry). First day I backed him was great. Second day he was antsy right from the go and tossed me three times before he settled down. Around here (NJ) prices vary from about $30 up depending on the reputation of the stable and trainer. Ask for references, watch them teach, and ask questions. Most riding schools have lesson cancellation policies too, so be prepared to call if you can't keep a lesson. I have also had lots of students I have had to "unteach". What they said! I have shown western pleasure, and my stetson stayed on the fence post, my helmet on my head for the duration. The stetson only went back on long enough for pictures if I won. I am the one at our barn everyone calls when having issues with the horses. I am not sure which one I would call a troublemaker. I am a firm believer in the idea that there is no such thing as bad behavior, it is the horse trying to tell you something. I tell my students I am not teaching them to ride, anyone can teach them to sit on a horse and look pretty. I am teaching them to communicate, to "Speak Horse". This is what I meant! I'm sorry, but I can't ride g myself to hit like on this one. I know how it feels to have someone decide to stop lifesaving treatment and just give up. Twenty years later I still berate myself that I could not change her mind. I read this mostly to see if I could get some insight into who Jay is. I see many things you have said differently now. As hard as it was to read it was worth it. As for the lack of editing, don't sweat it. If you ever decide you want to tidy it up I will be glad to help.

Parents may legally refuse vacs here on religious basis. It is my opinion they may do so if they choose, but they do NOT have a right to then expose others if their child contracts one of the "beaten" diseases like measles. No vacs? Home school!

This is going to sound odd, but my favorite memory came as a result of a fight my parents had when I was about 20. It was the first night my husband spent on our sofa rather than drive the 30 minutes home at the end of an evening. My parents had had a fight while we were out for the evening, dad had walked to the local gin mill down the block from the house for a beer and to cool off, and we found mom rearranging their bedroom. That is what mom did when angry, clean and move furniture. We all gave up the ghost and went to bed along about 1 am. Hubby was nervous that the fight would resume when dad wandered in around closing time. The rest of us were not - this had happened before! Dad comes in, very quietly undresses and goes to sit where the bed USED to be. He hit the floor. Rather than the explosion hitting like hubby expected all you heard was "Shit, I'm in trouble again!" and a bunch of snickers around the rest of the house! These little things taught me that it is ok to fight with the ones we love, as long as you don't hurt each other in the end. Mom may have been very quiet most of the time, a go with the flow sort of woman, but she had a steel backbone. The only time you needed to worry about her is if you pushed hard enough for her to brace that backbone and push back.

I don't think you will have much choice. There is too much left to be told. The characters would never leave you alone if you don't tell their stories. Well written, this is a great take on the shifter genra. If there was not an ocean between the packs, I can see Keller getting on well with Sasha's Kurt. Who knows? While I quite agree that the farmer deserves compassion too, he made a conscious choice to let an animal starve to death. There were other choices he could have made that would have been far better and cost him nothing more than a little effort. Like you, Simon was not given a choice. Just as you would not have chosen the streets at 15, nor would Simon have chosen his circumstances. Had the animal simply been turned loose ( animal version of the streets) he, like you, would have survived on his own. He could have found food and water. The movement would have worn his hooves. By penning him up and forgetting him the farmer condemned the animal to a painful death. Should we hate the farmer? I could not. Should we hate the choice he made? Hell yeah. He could have called almost any animal rescue and let them re-home Simon. He could have given him to the 4H program who would have found him a home. He could have simply opened the gate and let the animal fend for himself. We all need to remember a simple phrase that Tim understands better than most. There but for the grace of God go I.

Some are sure to want him to produce biological heirs, in spite of his mate being male. You may have tied up some of the threads, but you have left the possibility of a whole new can of worms!

The big point of contention was Alek made Liam feel like he was a "dirty little secret". Gay or straight, a significant other should feel loved and cherished, not ashamed and dirty. What does Alek need to do? IMO, he needs to simply start living his life the way he wants it. No considering what pop or mum will say before going to dinner with a flirty customer. Going where he wants for a beer after work without worrying he might be seen going into a gay bar. He doesn't need to hire a sky-writer to announce it to the world, but he can't actively be taking steps that hide it either. Like I said in the chapter comment, time to head to thinking spots. Alek needs to figure out how to stop hiding his true nature, how to break the habit of hiding. Nathan needs to decide if he really wants Liam, and if so stop playing it so safe. How many dates for coffee etc have they had and not a single kiss? If you want something (someone) get up and go for it. No one ever won a stock car race by being an also ran. Liam has the most thinking to do of all. Just what does he want a relationship.to be like? Can Alek be in that sort of relationship, or does he have more growing to do? Does Liam want to wait while Alek does his growing? What about Nathan? Can HE live the sort of life Liam wants? Every time Liam and Nathan are together a line from the Little Mermaid comes to mind. I will paraphrase to fit the situation a bit more realistically. "Go on and kiss de guy!"
