Poem #21
TBI
“I’d like to talk to you,” she says
And stands closer than is socially acceptable, grinning.
“Okay, but please watch your personal space,” I reply
And step back.
“How was your weekend?” she asks and closes the gap.
I hold out my arm to indicate the appropriate distance,
And retreat again.
“It was good, thanks for asking.”
Even though it’s Wednesday.
“Are you here for me?”
This time, I sidestep away.
“No, sorry.
Neanderthal - I see him in a new light.
Not - I see stamping of feet and I want to kick doubt's ass . Horsefeathers!
One - I want to wipe the tear. And remember to never make idle dares
Translation - I think this goes hand in hand with the last
Mocking Word - I can picture a mockingbird taunting, dangling the word just out of reach like a worm.
We're in the home stretch now, so no giving up for either of us.
