CJ has spent his first few months in Washington, D.C. living with his father and surrounded by a group of gay men who have become his mentors.

As he begins his sophomore year in high school at School Without Walls, the traumatic events at the end of summer linger. And over the next few months, he begins to explore his new life with visits to Chicago, Miami, and New York City.

Bay suffers from stereotyping. When he comes out, people think it means he wants to be all flamboyant and pink with glitter, but Bay is the least camp eighteen year old there is. For Bay, coming to terms with being gay, but somehow also being repressed about it, is a journey that takes a summer, some odd new friends, and a very special sort of man.

Meadowbrooks was the kind of town you dreamed of escaping from. Conservative, redneck and anti anything progressive. Bryan had an escape plan though. Lots of stories address the gay man after the divorce. But what might happen to cause the divorce. Dylan Pastore found out. Was it the alcohol, or is he truly gay?

This story starts in June of 2003. The invasion of Iraq is over, George Bush has landed on the aircraft carrier and proclaimed "Mission Accomplished", and the insurgency has yet to begin. Some may think America is at the height of its power.

Growing up gay and OUT in Mississippi in the 70s was unheard of. Well, I had no choice about the out part, and it sucked balls. This isn't a happy happy, joy joy story. This is where my nightmares come from.
