When Jake’s brother dies, his mother is convinced that Jake killed him, and he ends up in a foster care institution. The worst part is that Jake can’t remember what happened the night his brother died. The only cure for his nightmares and anxiety appears to be his roommate Alex, but Alex has demons of his own.

Two brothers move through life together, shuffled around from pillar to post. Trouble follows them everywhere and all they really have in life is each other. Clinton plays with his dice and always has a plan, Morgan always does what his older brother tells him.

They leave their rough childhood behind and get caught up in the escapades of South American drug trafficking. Clinton will do anything to keep them together, but it is Morgan who pays the price. Drugs, prostitution, and encounters with no one they can really trust. There is one goal, somehow to make it back to the States.

Poor Man's Son is the eleventh story in the CAP Saga. The story takes place in 2000, with Gathan Hayes and Will Schluter as our narrators. Many of the characters in this story were introduced in “Chronicles of an Academic Predator,” “1968,” “The Land Whore,” “Be Rad,” “Man in Motion,” “A Summer Love,” “If It Fits,” “Bloodlines,” “The Box,” and "Millennium."

Phillip tried to live the straight life; it didn't work, but he wouldn't trade his two kids for anything. Now he just has to find them — something he hasn't managed in the six years since his ex-wife kidnapped them. His twin brother has been encouraging him to start living his life again, but how's he going to find someone with all his baggage? He never expected to meet Vance. But... can he handle it?

Rick Spivey had his own issues at Polk High, but when he met the mysterious Taine Maxwell, he developed an obsession which would change both of their lives forever. Something about Taine brings out both the best and worst in Rick, and in his quest to win the boy's heart, Rick undergoes a transformative journey of his own.

This story is autobiographical in nature, but I have made some modifications to protect the identities of those included in it. All the names have been changed, and in some cases things such as gender, locations, and sometimes familial compositions have been altered.

All that being said, this is MY truth, and it's time I released it so that I'm free to create from a place other than brokenness and sadness.

This will be dark, but there are spots of light in the great black. No void is truly empty when one gazes into it. The light from our eyes illuminates more than we realize.
