One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 62. with wine and blanket

.

Sonetto N. 123

Mi manchi come le tegole manca la pioggia,

e che la sete può essere

vissuto come pene delle ere

scendendo a bagnare l'alloggia.

Qui di seguito ho disalloggia,

voci sommesse dicono: 'amittere,'

ma non voglio evitare del bufere,

per il paesaggio non ha foggia.

Invece io e te coccole

dal fuoco, sotto una coperta

così il nostro vino abbondevole

ci sentiamo alcuna malcerta

durante il nostro accarezzandole

come nell'amore ci sono erta.

Sonnet No. 124

You ask my love to be ever more perfect,

But I know of you I cannot ask the same –

For I feel what tumult that would affect,

And in your ire, you'd say I was to blame.

Do you know what most this paper is like? –

A pressing of chopped little bits construed,

Ground down and soaked till it has no more bite,

Because in blank form, no one thinks it's rude.

So, my love can take the ink of you, boy,

Lay down upon my back your demands, and see,

I show the best way for you to deploy

A flawless love that with yours can agree.

If I make but one claim upon you, know –

It is that your love continue to grow.

What a marvelous sonnet is 124! The metaphor of paper really plucked a string with in me. Sonnet 123, the first lines expressing longing were fantastic: as the tiles miss the rain. I feasted on the rest while this echoed in my head.

Thank you for your support, Parker. Sonnet 123 is a rather unusual poem. I have a translation of it later in the series, but I may have to try again at capturing this poem's special mood and diction. It's not easy to translate
