One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 7. a sham

Sonnet No. 13

 

Rising from the pool, water dots your skin,

While your body wet and shining is like

A pure sheet of glass, making my head spin,

And my troubles you effortlessly strike.

At that moment pause internal/external –

How we look and what we feel near and far –

For time stretches the temporal/eternal,

Making what we will be, now what we are.

Your flesh is a million faultless round mirrors

Reflecting back to me a love perfect,

But dull are they to the smile that endears,

And of the future makes me recollect.

With my mouth I will scoop the drops seen there,

And bring them to your lips for us to share.

 

 

Sonnet No. 14

 

A sham, a botch, a wreck is all my work –

As it comes tumbling down about my ear

To ring like cracked bells that my duties shirk

Each time I try to say what I hold dear.

Failure stalks my door as a hungry wolf

Baying: "Never good enough; never good…"

And it makes me tremble within myself

To think that I will never be understood.

Yet – somehow – through the tears that are welling,

A little thought can come to comfort me,

One that is a budding beyond all telling,

Namely, that all my words are ones you'll see.

For through my grief, I know you will read them,

And Love can graft onto your swelling stem.

#13 sent my heart rate upwards. Your poetry amplifies desire. #14 reflects so much of my own frustration and fear. And I have no couplet waiting for me to graft my words to any stem...what a fantastic image...

Those are the words that came my mind as I was reading. But as a common reader, they are so beautifully written and nicely presented. I Loved them both... :)

Perfection, circles in nature are just that and that's what rose from the pool. The smile from your lover, brighter than any light and, you drinking from him and sharing... such an intimate moment.
Oh a sham... i understand this only too well. This made me sad knowing what that feeling is like, yet know that someone loves and supports you through it all .. sometimes that's enough.
both are beautiful and my words do them no justice ... but know that I feel the meaning, that they touched me.

Thank you, Emi. This is a great review, and I appreciate it! As for your comment on No. 13, I guess water even as steam molecules forms perfect spheres, so calling it steamy is a wonderful observation. Thanks again.

Thank you, TIM! I love your comments on the water/pool poem; they are perfect too. As for the other poem, I let my feelings come to me undiluted when I was actively writing these. The outcome was an occasional Sonnet in a minor key, but too much of the same thing would not give the true narrative of the love documented here.
