One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 56. our fashion of love

.

Sonnet No. 111

What intimidates more than a blank page? –

'Different' is far from complimentary,

But at least a comment's something to gauge

Better than apathy sedentary.

Yet, why let them bother me? – I'll push aside

The fact they shut down a wish to engage,

And instead pull to me my object of pride;

The fact of your love is strong tutelage.

Let your heart their lackluster lives upstage,

As your conjured image warms my passion,

But mellows my temper through gentle swage,

While teaching them to love after our fashion.

In emptiness is also potential;

And the will to fight every obstacle.

Sonnet No. 112

In the space I laid out for me to write,

A terrier paw bid me make him room –

So I shoved aside my art for you tonight,

And in place of sonnets, his comforts assume.

Nestling my chin on his fur, I extol

Your lovely Gina – pure white Angora –

Whose tender azure gaze touches your soul,

To let you see my blue eyes incognita.

But now, a happy kiss brushes my nose,

For the love that's in hand is always bliss,

The truth of which every Airedale knows,

When contact is joy beyond analysis.

In Gina see my calm when you look at her,

And in my dog, I'll feel your devotion stir.

Chapter Comments

I sneaked away from everything to have some quiet minutes and read your sonnets. And they rewarded me for this idea. The first one speaks of devotion, love and a path to master. Amazing. The second one speak directly to my heart. The imagines you created. I can practically see the Terrier paw and the look. And you are so right. The special thing about dogs is, they are living in the moment. Taking love as it is right there, not thinking about tomorrow -- a blessing probably. The peaceful calmness of a cat, makes a house a home, just like the peaceful calmness of the beloved gives one`s soul a home. I have to go on thinking and making difficult decisions for the futur tonight. But thank you for that welcomed rest for my mind.

Sonnet 111 speaks in its firm, confident lines of the way of love and away from cruel indifference. The increasing warmth and dawning  radiance throughout makes this one stand out.

Sonnet 112 made me smile from the outset. I can sense an affectionate cold nose and feel fingers running through a canine coat.

Thank you, Parker, Concerning No. 111, I can see what you mean about an increasing intimacy as the poem moves along :) With 112, it is right to think of this as a more sensual (or sensory-based) poem. Touch sometimes becomes predominate.

Thanks once more

Thank you, Lyssa. Just as Masetto (the Airedale) offered me some respite from my writing that night, these poems provided a bit of comfort to you on a difficult day. That brings a glow to my heart :)
