One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 34. wonder

.

Sonnet No. 67

I take you in my arms, and you tremble –

At that moment I'm forced to remember

That when you say you love me with voice humble,

I'm the first to love within you stir.

You did not forget to mark the day we met,

So my fears were unjustified complete,

And had I voiced them we'd both be upset,

But, Providence blessed us to be upbeat.

That I am your first love is an honor –

And sends me to my knees as I kiss your brow,

For you my love, don’t know what you're in for,

As I'll mark our anniversary, and how.

Close your eyes and let your first love show you,

He has experience enough for two.

Sonnet No. 68

Sometimes I wonder if I can even say

That yes, I know you well, for seemingly

You and I grow closer with every day,

Yet miss the other's most heartfelt, aching plea.

When you say I provide comfort, and that's all,

You do not mean to hurt me, but you do,

For I am in your deep connection's thrall,

Like a binder's stitch to you through and through.

But, it is only fair that we must learn

The way the other expresses his thought,

And not to interpret that as a spurn,

To strew the path ahead with dangers fraught.

You say what you want, and in your own way,

And in my heart, judgment I will defray.

67. You're worried he will not remember, or that perhaps he does but what he feels is not enough to celebrate. In the end he does.  Your his first love .. and you are going to make it a night to remember.

68.  Same person, same love, or is it, yet the road is rocky and communication is too. There is something that holds you together as you fight to learn about each other.

Both of these seem to be about the same relationship but the way isn't smooth, but that the same for all relationships isn't it?  A beautiful pair, AC. xo

Both sonnets roused me. No. 67 in its depiction of a well-versed lover taking his first-time lover into the realm of sexual experience, and No. 68 in its depiction of a deep friendship that is sometimes miscommunicated, sometimes misunderstood, but that remains everlasting, even so. In both poems, there is evidence of love. Beautifully done, AC.

This is a beautiful review, Mac. It touches me, and you are gifted with words yourself.

Thank you once again.

These are so incredibly beautiful and blessings for the person for whom you wrote them. Number 67 made me blink back a tear tear of joy and another of envy. Number 68 reminded me of so much that is true for me and for many. Binder's stitch secured me to this poem.

Thank you.

Thank you, Parker - and Tony thanks you too :) It's wonderful to think that No. 67 is touching people.

As for No. 68, when I re-read it immediatly before posting, I thought 'Parker will dig this binder's stitch reference.' Seems I was right :)

Thanks again, my Promising Author buddy. Muah

AC both of these are touching and beautiful. A special or first love, an anniversary is what I am feeling...but how? And a misunderstanding perhaps of what the relationship means. Both are wonderful!

Thank you, Mike! Fantastic feedback, and I take your 'and how' to mean I've somehow done it all pretty smoothly (:) at least, I hope).

I'll say it here first, but the next two will be quite different from one another. The first, hopefully sweet and rich in metaphor about Gay folks, and the second one, angry for us Gay folks.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Tim. Yes, all are these poems are for Tony, 'the only begetter of these ensuing Sonnets,' as Shakespeare dedicated his set to the young man he loved.

And I think what you say about all relationships having doubts and celebrations of the type in these two sonnets is accurate. That being said, it's nice when others read them and say they can relate. That makes me feel I've communicated the emotions in a meaningful way.

Thanks again. Muah
