One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 40. summer sun and wintry breeze

.

Sonnet No. 79

I know your anger stems from them, and so

If it flares inappropriately then,

I'll feel your heat of rough injustice go

Right past me and fly out to them again.

We will be for each other what we need –

Whether among Italian cypress trees

In Liguria's sunny and warm lead,

Or in more northern climes with wintry breeze.

Still, the one thing we can't, is let them win,

For rage is their weapon to keep us down,

And questions all love that is masculine,

But they only spread their own disrenown.

Sun-lapped shore we'll be to one another,

Peaceful retreat, one there for the other.

Sonetto N. 80

Il mio abbraccio ti aspetta,

ragazzo, principe focoso –

con il tuo sorriso estroso,

si è tutt'altro che timidetta.

E come i pastori di vecchia,

bruceremo ardente come Amor

tra le colline e boschi ancor

dove il nostro sogno sonnecchia.

Vieni da me con passione,

prendere la mano forte offro

di dimenticare l'afflizione,

perché senza di te io soffro.

Lasciate che questa relazione

futuro amanti decifro.

...a working of no. 80 in English will appear down the line in the series....

In Number 79, you again come to the theme of being a safe, tranquil retreat for the one you love, and for one another. Your images of Italian seashores and countryside surely give great emphasis to this.

In Number 80, you take us into that Italy, and let us hear the echoes of love that resound in that storied land. And you remind us that classical love is perfectly possible in our own day. Beautiful, bellisimo.

Thank you, Parker. These are beautiful comments and I appreciate them. And yes, there is a definite pitch and swing with the Italian themes of these two poems :)
