One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 1. choices

One Hundred and

Fifty-Five

Sonnets

Lyrics of Dedication

And so here, this work I offer

Has found a form, and is complete –

For you, dear one, I proffer

An infinity of Love's heat.

Many will be the hearts kindled,

In the centuries that follow,

Where Love grows not to be dwindled,

But venerated as hallow.

I love you Tony; now I've said it,

And quatrains living in my blood

Will always make your beauty sit

Like heaven's dome with stars bestud.

Sonnet No. 1

You touched my heart, with that thing you did –

Taking your laptop just to chat with me,

Sitting at your family event like a kid,

With a private smile, everyone could see.

Risk; Fear – You moving in the shadow of fright,

Typing that you just had to take it out –

And perhaps in me, you sense the daylight

Coming to cast away all your self-doubt.

It moved me because it took some planning –

To bring your laptop to this party indeed,

And keep the date on which I was counting –

That appointed time and hour we agreed.

Public/Private, what we do is for us,

For you and me, what we hold is precious.

Sonnet No. 2

Hollow the feeling, destitute the art

To try to put into words what it is

That has made me queasy right from the start –

But then again, oh what magic is his.

A word, a thought, a kind gesture given,

And all over again, I fall once more,

As if for nothing else I've ever striven

Than to make him happier than before.

So my art of feelings may be bereft,

So my heart of wisdom may be new stripped –

But for love of him I'll suffer no theft

Of the loving passion that my soul has gripped.

To hold onto, or to let loose in time,

These are the only choices, that are mine.

Oh my GOD!

Well I've read these before but they feel new even so. They are lovely and the boy for whom they were written, was a lucky guy.
Still beautiful the second time around, there is such feeling in them.
Thank you AC!

Thank you, Tim. I decided to repost them in 'bite-size' pieces so they are more digestible. I hope more people seem them now. Thanks for your support!

If the dedication alone wouldn't convince Tony, the rest of the sonnets will. I know, for I've read them before.
I'm glad you decided to post them again in a smaller dose. Each one of them deserves full attention.

In the first sonnet I recognize the frustration on finding an agreement to meet on-line not to be fulfilled and the relief when the promise has been kept, even under difficult circumstances.

Having fallen in love, although it may be against you better judgment. Sonnet two shows the rift between reason and heart. A love that makes one uncertain about a lot of things, but above all about oneself.

I'm ready for the next 153, AC. Thank you.

Thank you, Peter, for your thoughtful and wonderful comments. I don't know if you noticed it (you probably did), but Sonnet No. 2 is the only one of the entire series not addressed to Tony directly. It is about Tony, but addressed to myself and others. It seems to have been something I needed to 'get out of the way' before I continued on with the series. I thought I'd mention that here :)

Thanks for your reviews and support. (and P.S. I'm rather fond of the dedication...I love that you mentioned it)

Thanks, Aviana. You are referring to the Lyrics of Dedication...? If so, thanks again, as I felt very proud and moved once I wrote at a time I was very close to completing the entire project.

Thanks, Aviana. I'd like to say here that all 155 Sonnets in this book are for one person; Tony. :) Some of your later comments tell me that might not be clear.... There's all for one guy

Thank you again. Your reviews are wonderful and bring a bright spot to my days
