One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 78. done
.
Sonnet No. 155
Now we have what we need, but I desire
The final and greatest gift you can give –
That our joined name can live on and inspire
The love we have formed, and our lives outlive.
Carried forth in the world, we’ll be proud fathers,
Knowing each generation will make it
Easier for our kind, for as grandfathers,
They’ll teach Love, not hate, and with us will prove it.
The lessons our kids will know in their hearts
Will be passed in our name and memory,
And shall outshine the luster of my arts
To place our love in the heart of history.
So I ask you humbly to give us a son,
And in your offspring, all my work is done.
