January CSR Discussion: The little Prince that turned into a Beggar by Georgie DHainaut

Well, did you find out about the little prince? Just what happened to him? Quite the change in circumstance... but what about fortitude? Share your thoughts in the comments below, but please enjoy this interview (long delayed!) with Georgie first!   Q: Do you eat your fruits and vegetables? A: Vegetables regularly, mostly every day. Fruits is not my thing or I don’t take the time for it. So it is a banana so every now and then on an incidental basis. Q: Are you a person who m

'A Marvellous Light' by Freya Marske

A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars This book contains magic, Edwardian society, arcane puzzles, soul-deep connections, and the British civil service. What a mix. And you know what? It works. It really works. Some reviewers complain there's not enough emphasis on the magic. For me, it's enough. Magic drives the plot, steers the action, and has sufficient internal logic to hold the story together. I don't want to be sitting through pages of lore or mechanics.

Reader Rejection

Reader Rejection It will happen. Don’t try to run or hide from it, as it is as inevitable as the story itself. Hehehe! But it’s ok. Prepare for it, embrace it, and never ever let it get you down. As writers...we write. It’s what we do. It comes from the heart and it forces us, in many cases, to expose the most vulnerable parts of ourselves to any random stranger that comes along wanting a peek at who we really are on a very deep level. I wish that I could find a way to show readers how taxin

Moving Pictures

On a July evening, in 1991, three people are each caught in a moment of indecision, not knowing what the next right thing to do is. Helen has cooked a special, surprise meal for her husband, but he still hasn’t returned home. Paul has parked his car at the side of the road, but he doesn’t know where to drive to next. Craig is working late, but his mind isn’t on work. Moving Pictures is my newly published short story. It tells its story from the point-of-view of three different people,

Let's Go Exploring

Let's do a bit of a flip-flop with today's prompts and push ourselves out of our comfort zones.  In honor of our upcoming Poetry Anthology, I thought it would be fun to feature a couple of prompts that can be used for either poetry or stories.  If you are a poet, then try writing a paragraph, short story, or vignette.  If you are a non-poet, then give writing a short poem or two a try.  The anthology theme is Exploration, so let's explore writing styles that may not be in our wheelhouse.  You ne

Pokemon: Into the Woods…I mean, Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Pokemon: Into the Woods…I mean, Pokemon Legends: Arceus   I am a moderate gamer. Not a closeted one, I’ve nothing to hide…but a moderate one. Why? Because after the age of 25, my time has been sucked up by either full-time work, college, or both. So, you are forced to be picky and to choose where you want to spend those gaming hours on. I am quite grateful to youtube gamers for providing their own fun clips and enjoyment of just about every game you can think of, because on

2023 Poetry Anthology - Announcement

Due to feedback I've received about the poetry anthology, the guidelines have been revised to eliminate the limitation on number of poems submitted.  There is now a maximum word count instead.  The one poem per chapter rule has also been abolished, so multiple poems may be posted in one "chapter", with a maximum of five chapters.  Please review the revised guidelines and let me know if there are any questions.  I have also created threads in the anthology section of the Writer's Club for discuss
