It has finally happened 😮 Friday I woke up and had to drive though slush and like a blizzard of snow coming down ❄️. Which means that probably 50% of the people in our city don't have snow tires or proper all weather tires and probably never will have them. Then 25% haven't got their snow tires on yet Luckily I'm not in either group. Now I know that probably the vast majority of our readers are in places where snow is seen very occasionally if ever. Snow in October isn't unheard of around here, although it generally starts more in November. Twenty years ago we had a surprise October snowstorm that decimated the area. Good ol' lake effect set up right over where I live. All the trees were in full leaf still, so two feet of saturated, heavy snow, brought down so many trees and branches that it looked like a hurricane came through. I remember leaving work and thinking it's just flurries. It's October... it will stop and melt right away.

The rules I learned growing up in the northeast about winter driving: 1. reduce speed on snowy and icy roads, and if you have to use brakes, pump them, don't slam on them. 2. increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. 3: don't use cruise control, 4. clear all now and ice off vehicle before you start driving, 5 keep gas tank at least half-full, 6 when you're in a skid, don't slam on brakes and turn into the skid. I hope that helps for someone new to wintery driving.

I'm not allowed to drive, because of my epilepsy. But my pet hate is public transport, never runs on time. We sometimes get snow, where i live. -

Central Texas here, so rarely get snow, but we do get ice storms; and I can assure you, that you do NOT want me on the road if there is a piece of ice within a fifty mile radius. I will find the ice, and slide uncontrollably on it, usually in a spinning motion taking out all in my path. I guess my one big pet peeve, who are we kidding, I have dozens of them about drivers, but the one that drives me absolutely batty are those drivers that do NOT use a turn signal... Here in Central Massachusetts, we get snow, not every year, like in the winter of 2014-15. Between January and February over 90 inches, (228.6cm).
