Please, Sir (or ma’am), may I have some more?

Short stories can be many things – a complete story, a character sketch, or an experiment in form. They are, by definition, short, which may leave some readers readying the torches and pitchforks.  @wildone asked a question in our last guest blog about what to do when readers are clamoring for more, and you want to continue the story, but not necessarily at that moment. It’s a great question and one I deal with on a regular basis since I primarily write short stories.  I’ve gotten quite adept at

Weekly Wrap Up (Mar. 12 - Mar. 18)

Whoa, Nelly. I'm wiped out   I may or may not have been, what the hell there is cameras in every place now adays, at a bar celebrating the little leprechauns among us. Yes, I'm talking about our Irish friends. But then again, the rugby playing guy I met last night was not little nor would I call him a leprechaun   Then tonight it was my lil' sisters 50th bday. She is the last of us to hit 50, so the only thing we kids have to look forward to now is reaching 65 so we can get our Seniors

Heartbreak

Heartbreak Let me start off by saying that I have definitely been through it more times than I can count...and it never ts any easier for me to take. In fact, if anything...it has gotten much much worse over the years, now that I’ve matured a lot more and really have a deeper meaning of what love is and what it could be if only I could get the damn thing to work. Hehehe! Sad but true. I’ve always been a romantic. I work hard to give all that I have to give, and if my partner ever decide

Desert Prompts Part Two

We had a great week of exploring the Mesa area together and writing in the late afternoons.  One of the ideas I hadwas an abandoned space.  It was a vacation spa with mineral waters and even a museum of taxidermy.  This was a space I stumbled upon and wanted to capture its essence both for imagination and historical purposes.  Valkyrie enjoyed the idea as much as I did as you will read.   We also pulled out some of our prompt books and randomly selected an idea or two.  One of them was abou

Ode to Sunday

Wait, I can’t do poems. Let’s call it Stream of Consciousness Sunday. This week felt ten weeks long. Modern medicine is a wonder, but modern travel is torture, and I often use Sundays to consider all the different ways I could avoid airplanes for the rest of my life.   Also, no surprise to anyone, the world is full of self-involved, self-righteous, ignorant individuals, which is also no modern phenomenon, as human nature has basically remained unchanged since the dawn of the species. Weekly Wrap Up (Mar. 5 - Mar. 11)

WAKE UP!!! YOU ARE LATE!!! Okay, that is kind of a North American comment but bear 🐻 with me  (I know I spelled that wrong  ) And if you are a bear, no hate mail please   So before I started this blog I went back and read over all the great suggestions that you all came up with last week  . I'm going to toss 3 ideas all into this blog and then see how they go, and tell me what you think. First would be, what is your favourite story that you read this week as suggested by @ast

Niche Writing

Niche Writing When it comes to writing and pursuing your art, day after day, night after night...I’m always stressing how important it is to be ‘comfortable’ with your particular set of skills. The more comfortable you are with your work, the more the writing itself will sort of fade into the background. Don’t worry, that’s not a bad thing. Hehehe! It just means that your natural ability will grow out of that level of comfort to the point where nothing is forced or focused on in a literary s
