I've Never Written Poetry Before - Help!

Writing poetry can be an intimidating prospect when you've never done it before, but it doesn't have to be.  Like our Poetry Anthology theme this year - Choices - you can choose to give it a go and see how it turns out.  Many people think of things like sonnets, ballads, iambic pentameter, and rhyming when it comes to poetry.  Meter, form, and structure, oh my!  Some of these forms intimidate even seasoned poets.  But we don't need to be Shakespeare to express ourselves.  Start simple.   Ha

Hmmm, so we are 1 down and 11 to go in months of this year. Where did January go!   Groundhog day is a coming, so just in case you haven't seen the movie like 100 times staring Bill Murray, especially over and over again on Groundhog Day, keep your eyes out on your local listings 🙄 A question for my friends to the south, how did you handle your small wisps of winter that we deal with from Nov. to May  I shouldn't laugh, as places like Georgia and Texas among other places are not really

My secret has been revealed 🕺I did say last week that it might be on site or not. Well it turned out that I knew we were going to announce this year's Anthology Themes 🥳So that was my big secret.  Thanks to our Admin Team who collaborated on discussing many different ideas of the past Anthologies, the number, the wording and the hopeful attraction to every one of our Authors and Poets, new, old and maybe ones that might be inspired that we have not met yet .  Consideration was also taken in

**2026 Anthology Announcement**

It's here!  The moment we've all been eagerly waiting for!  It's time to announce the 2026 Anthology theme!  But before we do, you know we like to keep everyone on their toes, so there's a bit of a twist for 2026.   This year we decided on.... Two themes!  So if one doesn't strike your fancy, hopefully the other one will.  Ideally, both will inspire authors to write a story for each.  So without further ado, here are the themes for the 2026 GA Anthology! Weekly Wrap Up (Jan. 11 - Jan. 17)

Monday is the day they call Blue Monday. If you remember, last week I revealed to all that I was down in the dumps   I really have to give you all the hugest hugs . After watching all the music vids and then watching 3 favourite shows: Ferris Buhler's Day Off, Red White and Royal Blue, and Heated Rivalry (my favourites, don't judge me  ) and going for a longer walk, I was feeling better. I think distracting my mind for about 8 hours and then some exercise seemed to do the trick. I wen

Antholology Flashback - 2006 - Blizzard

Hello everyone.  @Valkyrie is pretty tied up so she asked me to help out with promoting some older Anthologies.  We haven't done an Anthology Flashback in awhile, but given the long range weather forcasting for the rest of January, I figured our 2006 Anthology with the theme of Blizzard would be greeted warmly. Keep an eye out, as the team is working on the the 2026 Anthology Theme, which will be launching soon. Without further ado, here are our 2006 - Blizzard entries:

Howdy Ho Good Neighbours! I guess that is why they'd call it the blues.... Interesting, the holidays are over, the bills are coming in, back to work everyday of the week, the days are getting longer but still submerged in darkness for most of the day (in my longitude).  They say the 3rd Monday of January is blue Monday, the saddest day of the year, but I think I've arrived a wee bit earlier .  I just feel blah!  So I need you all to give me something to do to cheer me up

2026 Poetry Anthology Announcement

The GA Poetry Anthology is returning for 2026 with the theme "Choices"!  We face all different kinds of choices in life, so this would be a great opportunity to explore some of them.  I look forward to reading what our site poets come up with!   Submitted poems will be featured throughout the month of April to celebrate National Poetry Month. I will work on getting the threads set up in the anthology forum and the event posted. Give me a little time to get that done.    2026 Poetry Ant

Weekly Wrap Up (Dec. 28 - Jan. 3)

Oh wow! 2026 you say   First off, to Myr and the rest of the GA community: With all the days off last week, if you got them, I didn't know what day it was . I forgot it was Saturday, but I'm going to blame a extra long turkey hangover in not doing the Weekly Wrap Up. Then Myr posted the stories for the week and a gentle reminder/hint, that if anyone (me) wanted to add more, to stay tuned. I tried  I really, really tired .
