Writing Groups: Some Pros and Cons
A writing group can do wonders for our motivation and keep us accountable for our production. Members cheer us on, understand how even the smallest recognition can mean the world, and know not to say things like, “Oh, you’re a writer? Do yo

I've talked about our GayAuthors.org community many times, but I have to say, in seeing some recent comments and posts - I am once again just so privileged to be a part of GA. A few years ago, when Myr asked me to be the Member Advocate and among other tasks, help support and foster the community here, I immediately said yes and have had no regrets since.
One of the great ways I see the community coming together is weekly here with our Friday writing prompts, courtesy of the great Comicfan.
How GA Changed My Life
Compiled By
Renee Stevens
I don't remember what really brought me to GA in the first place, but that's not important. What is important is what I found here at GA. I no longer get asked why I write what I write. Instead, I have found acceptance of my writing that I haven't really found anywhere else. I was made a part of this community and I have met so many wonderful people who I am honored to call my friends. Those friends have been instrumental in so
I am especially thrilled to present today's review for you. I've been preparing for this for a while, went out and asked someone whose reviews I particularly enjoy and asked that person to give a review for this story that I personally LOVE!
BUT - before we get to the story, I want to give a little plug for our Premium membership, especially as it seems like we haven't plugged Premium in almost a year (last July, if I recall correctly).
We strive to keep most of GayAuthors.org as a total
As we started April, instead of a trick, we got a treat in the start of this month's Can't Stop Reading Book Club which this month is featuring Josh's Blog by Hosted Author CarlHoliday. We hope you join many in the community and read this great story so you can join in our discussion which will be held on Monday, April 29th!
Wednesday was again a wonderful entry in our monthly Ask an Author - we are so thankful to Dark for creating and managing this great look at various authors on the site.
It's Friday again, which means two new prompts from our prompt guru, Comicfan. Take a look at these and maybe even write one and share it in the Writing Prompt Forum! Also, don't forget April is Team Recognition month, so make sure you thank your writing team!
Prompt 222 – Creative Tag – The Dream Lately you have been having the same dream over and over again. Only today you realize parts of your dream are coming true. Is this something to be grateful for or terrified of?

ANNOUNCEMENT: Don't forget that April is Team Recognition Month, so don't forget to thank your teams! No book club this month!
April Fools! Okay, so I suck at pranks. We are doing a story; this month we're going with the story suggested by Percy. I'm loving all the detailed feedback readers are sharing with each other and our authors. One of the suggestions I've heard a few times is giving short stories a chance. I'd like to feature 3 short stories, up to say, 25k each but they can be less, for next month's selections. That way people can pick and choose what to read, any or all of them.
Well - I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacccccccccckkK!
I want to thank everyone for their well wishes while I was in the hospital. I'm home now, and loving that part, but still isolated to the bedroom because of immuno-suppression. Right now, physically I feel great, but as my sister's cells finish grafting and producing new blood cells, especially white ones, I have to keep isolated and constantly washing hands, being careful, etc. But on the good side, I have my laptop, and can f

So as I hinted last month, we are going to meet a member of the horse loving community here at GA this month. Yup, I’m going to have a good chat with the writer of the Riding Lessons series of books that can be found on the profile works of Andrew Todd.

Today we're featuring a review of Libby's story, State of Mind. She graciously gave out eBook copies, and members could read it on the site, of course. Fishwings accepted my request and wrote up an excellent review to entice you to read the story, just in case you haven't already. Bear in mind, however, there *are* some spoilers. Read ahead at your own risk!

Hey folks! It's that time again, prompt time! We have 2 more creative prompts from our resident flash inspiration guru, Comicfan. 218 is right up my alley so I'm going to try to do something for it later this week, I think. Site flash fiction is something I have, to my embarrassment, been neglecting. It's a cool little way to inspire authors to write-even if it's just something small and fun. You can do a 30 word poem, or a 100 word microflash, or an under 1k regular flash, or a prompt could ins
We have had so many wonderful contributors to the GA News Blog. One such contributor is Libby Drew who has sent us countless articles centered around ways to improve your writing. She has had a ton of very helpful tips and today is no different.

Wait a minute, lady. My story has a quest. How much more direction could I possibly have?
Direction is not always movement. Movement does not ensure direction. Direction implies there is a question that needs to be
Last week, I asked for some help with reviews. The response was astounding and many great reviews were offered up. One of which was a review that Ieshwar did for the story "Nothing More Awesome Than This" by xTony. This review certainly piqued my interest and I now have this story on my list of to reads. Enjoy!

A daft question: Do I use “A” or “An”?
Well it does seem like a daft question doesn’t it, but it’s amazing how many people still struggle with this; especially when confronted by the more obscure grammatical areas such as acronyms and abbreviations?
I’ve seen wrong uses in stories posted on line, in published works in print, in newspaper articles and even in professional publications.

I miss the old days! When, I was a kid at summer camp. The only possible question or one of two likely answers to any sentence that had kindle / kindling or rekindle in it, was and/or were:
Q - Got a match?
A 1 - Yes.
A 2 - No.
(To this day I still carry a match/lighter, just in case?)

Here in Central Massachusetts, the center of the universe, we are experiencing high temps along with an outrageous humidity index; the combined effect will have "feel-like" temps hitting the triple digits...lasting through the Fourth of July!

The concept of rekindle—the act of reviving a lost passion, a forgotten memory, or a dormant connection—is a powerful storytelling tool. It injects vital emotional stakes into a plot by forcing characters to confront their pasts, heal from trauma, or rediscover their core motivations, making the narrative deeply relatable and resonant.
Emotional Stakes and Character Arcs: Rekindling breathes life into stagnant or disillusioned characters. It acts as the bridge between a character's "before
Rekindle means to ignite or revive something (like a fire, passion, or relationship) anew. The word was formed in the late 16th century by combining the Latin derived prefix re- (meaning "again", "anew", or "back") with the verb kindle (meaning "to light a fire"). Initially, the word was used strictly in its literal sense of setting a physical fire back to life. However, its figurative use (to reawaken faded emotions, memories, or interests) has been popular since the late 1600s.
We've had timely rains this spring and June has not been too bad so far, but this coming week for my area is forecast to be toasty with temps 95F and above with heat indices in the triple digits through next weekend. The troubling part is that the overnight lows are to be near 80 F which doesn't provide much overnight cooling...AT least most of us have air conditioning and don't face what has happened in Europe this past week.
