Puppilull Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 We've had basically the same Disney movie mix show on Christmas Eve for close to 50 years. Snippets from different movies. Each time they try to change it, there's great outrage. Funnily enough the kids nowadays are so used to cartoons they don't even watch these (really old) clips. 3
Site Moderator Reader1810 Posted December 9, 2016 Site Moderator Posted December 9, 2016 Today's entry brought back a memory from twenty years ago - Christmas 1996. My cousin's daughter was five that year. Due to her mom's work schedule, she and her family usually spent Christmas Eve with my family. Wonder of wonders that year K happened to see 'Santa' visiting at the neighbour's house. The look on her little face was priceless...I can see her now in my mind's eye. 4

Site Moderator Reader1810 Posted December 10, 2016 Site Moderator Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) I feel like the kid in class whose hand is waving in the air as she madly cries "oh pick me, pick me!" Why you ask? Because I know with the utmost certainty that Val is the author of Door #10. How can I be so sure you ask? Well, I will tell you, it's because of post Val made about some patients/clients she works with who are in this very same situation... I bet you didn't think I would remember, eh? This line sealed the deal: Sometimes people with aphasia can sing much better than they can speak. Edited December 10, 2016 by Reader1810 5

Well, I will tell you, it's because of post Val made about some patients/clients she works with who are in this very same situation... I remember too - but Val could have helped Cole or Aditus with the info. The story reminded me of Cia's Disastertastic in a round-about-way (the difference between talking and singing). If you have Premium access and like Christmas stories, it's a fun read. 3
Slytherin Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Darn, what if she told them about that and didn't write this story herself.. Sneaky Penguin 4
Former Member Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 When I was a teenager, my father's church youth group used to go caroling to the homes of various church members. It was an ethnic church so there were members who primarily spoke Japanese. Among our mimeographed lyric sheets was a single song we could sing in Japanese. The song is the most recorded holiday song and has been translated into dozens of languages and you're all familiar with the tune. But most of you would mangle the pronunciation! ;-) Kiyoshi kono yoru (Sanbika 109) Kiyoshi kono yoru hoshi wa hikari sukui nomiko wa mabune no naka ni nemuri tamo-o. itoyasuku. I thought about that but then the red herring would have come into play here, but I'm betting that isn't the case. I was just just reading about Sawyer's lovely voice last night. 3
Site Administrator Popular Post Valkyrie Posted December 10, 2016 Author Site Administrator Popular Post Posted December 10, 2016 Time for the weekly reveal! :D A huge thank you to all who liked, reviewed, and commented in the forum. Reading everyone's memories, thoughts, and traditions shows us that our Calendar is doing exactly what we intended. There were a lot of correct guesses this week. Slytherin proved herself to be a very clever LBO, guessing six stories correctly. Close behind was Reader1810 with five correct guesses, and dughlas with four. Let's see if they keep up their streak next week! Door #3: The Candyman Can by Cole Matthews The guesses were pretty evenly split between Cole and Adi. 3 votes for Cole, 3 for Adi, and only 1 for me. Door #4: Christmas Fair by Aditus Not too many were fooled by Adi on this one, with 5 correct guesses. One person guessed Cole, and nobody thought this was my work. Door #5: A Christmas Memory by Valkyrie Not surprising, but I didn't fool anyone with my memory. lol All five guesses were for me. No herrings here. lol Door #6: To Fly by Aditus The majority of guesses for this touching tale were for Adi. 4 guessed Adi, with 1 guess each for Cole and myself. Door #7: Elixir by Cole Matthews Slytherin was the only one to correctly attribute this lovely story to Cole. I had the majority of guesses at two, and Adi had one. Door #8: Que Sera Sera by Aditus Adi's signature style shone through in this story, and only one person detracted from the majority and guessed Cole. The other five guesses were for Adi, due to the striking similarity to Jonah from RRS. No one thought I wrote this. lol Door #9: Christmas Spirit by Valkyrie I didn't fool too many with my Christmas poem. Three correct guesses for me, and one guess for Adi. No one guessed Cole. 6

Timothy M. Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) There's only one guess for today's story so far... Reader1810 has guessed that Aditus wrote it. Do you agree or disagree? I'm hopeless at guessing, but since the main character was an emotional, insecure drama queen, I agree with Reader. Hey! Door #7: Elixir by Cole Matthews Slytherin was the only one to correctly attribute this lovely story to Cole. I had the majority of guesses at two, and Adi had one. See, I told you I was hopeless at guessing. But it was fun teasing Adi. Edited December 10, 2016 by Timothy M. 5
Site Moderator Popular Post Reader1810 Posted December 11, 2016 Site Moderator Popular Post Posted December 11, 2016 (edited) Door #11 reminded me of the time my dad, my aunt and uncle and I were sorting through the accumulated wealth in my grandmother's house after she passed away. What sticks in my mind the most is the discovery of a box of old family photos tucked away on the closet shelf in the back bedroom. One of the photos was of my grandfather's youngest brother. It taken in 1918 and most of the backing was tissue paper thin or gone altogether. No matter, the picture was clear showing him as stood tall and proud in his military dress uniform. The other thing we found out from going through the photos was that our family name had changed. Handwritten on the back of one of the photos was a name that was a lot longer and it even started with a different letter. Being that he was from Eastern Europe, we think it was changed when my grandfather emigrated to Canada because his real name was to onerous to spell or pronounce. Hmm, I wonder as it suddenly trips of my mind's tongue so easily as I type this.... Edited December 11, 2016 by Reader1810 6
