How did I ever learn this goddam language?!

Recommended Posts

It's worth mentioning that UNESCO once rated English the second most difficult language to learn as a second tongue.  (The most difficult is, of course, Chinese.)

In the UK many people live in homes with a ground floor + a first floor

…that’s a two storey building -_-

Or possibly a three storey home with a ground floor + first & second floor

Or maybe a penthouse flat on the ninth floor

…that’s a ten storey building

Those easily confused live in a bungalow

…that’s just a ground floor :gikkle:

Now this I understand, since I spent a summer semester in London.

I'm just glad I didn't decide to be a speech therapist.

I did ;)  Taking phonetics seriously screwed up my spelling.  I was an excellent speller before that class, and afterwards I found myself having to think about how to spell things properly.  I wouldn't trade my job for anything, though.

Bungalow isn't even an English word. Certainly the Angles, Brits, Picts, Celts, etc had a word for a one story dwelling long before the British East India Company 😲

Well not everyone can be a Weekender :P

Personally, I wouldn't mind some buttered scones and figs jam with a spot of tea
