Ron Posted November 22, 2025 Author Posted November 22, 2025 (edited) I like Andrew Bird's music. Left Handed Kisses from 2016's Are You Serious album with Fiona Apple being one highlight. Sometimes we can be self-centered. But, really! I always thought that Fallorun from Bird's My Finest Work Yet was 'Follow Ron', and about me. You can sing along if you will: Follow Ron; follow Ron: follow Ro-o-o-on ... . As a recent listen proved out... it was not about me after all. So sad! (So much laughter.) From my understanding the Nuns whacked kid’s knuckles with rulers for grammar offenses. Which enforcement do you think was most effective, the whack or the red pen? 2 Quote

Ron Posted November 23, 2025 Author Posted November 23, 2025 Have you ever tried dill pickles on pizza? After ordering from my favorite pizza purveyor and eating those two first delicious slices (pepperoni, mushrooms and extra-cheese; which is almost always spoken as one word lest we somehow face guilt from saying the words individually), the rest of that large sized beauty would go into the fridge for reheating until it was gone. Every once in a while I would put dill pickle chips on a couple of slices before they hit my convection oven for dinner -- until the cheese started bubbling. I'm going to tell you, although you may not believe me (but I hope you do), that those two reheated, pickle-spackled pieces of pizza tasted fantastic. Now say five times: Pickle-spackled pieces of pizza. 2 Quote

I'm going to tell you, although you may not believe me (but I hope you do), that those two reheated, pickle-spackled pieces of pizza tasted fantastic. Now say five times: Pickle-spackled pieces of pizza. I have not, but I have given someone pickle-on-pizza PTSD. It all started when I was 17 and landed my first job at a small pizza joint. I was the dishwasher/phone answerer. On my very first day, I took my very first call. The customer rattled off their order, and I swear I heard them say they wanted dill pickles on their pizza. I didn’t blink. I wrote it down with the unshakable confidence of a teenager who thought they understood how the world worked. Then I handed the ticket to the cook, who looked at it like I’d just handed him a warrant for arrest. “You sure about this?” “Yup. Dill pickles,” I said with full certainty. So he shrugged, cracked open a giant can of pickles like this was a Tuesday special, and laid them out across the pizza like a man who'd given up asking questions. Baked it, boxed it, sent it out. About twenty minutes later, the phone rang again. Same customer, of course. They were livid. My manager tried so hard not to laugh while they chewed her out. Needless to say, we remade the pizza. No pickles this time. And so, that dill disaster became my first official work memory, forever preserved like... well, a pickle. 1 4 Quote

Ron Posted November 26, 2025 Author Posted November 26, 2025 Tomorrow night after din' din' I'm going to watch The Wizard of Oz. This has been a Thanksgiving 'thing' for as long as I can remember. I'll be watching the 70th anniversary Blu-ray edition. Does it matter that I'm making eggplant parmesan for dinner? I didn't think so. Although I'm not a fan of traditions I am a creature of habit. Long live The Wizard of Oz! 4 Quote
Ron Posted November 28, 2025 Author Posted November 28, 2025 I made eggplant parmesan for Thanksgiving dinner. The prep work seemed to take forever. The oven time was minimal. The end result was fab! 1 Quote
Ron Posted December 4, 2025 Author Posted December 4, 2025 Oh, my goodness! Another triumphant triumph from Carbone’s prepared ‘Spicy Vodka’ sauce — with additions. What with my limitations of one preparation at a time, and the further limitations of just how long one can keep leftovers in the fridge, I use a quarter of a 24 oz jar along with a dollop of vodka from a nip-bottle in addition to the portion of pasta sauce for a dinner for one — along with some fine grinds of Arborio chili to up the heat content. All-in — with the addition of some pecorino Romano cheese near the end — this is ridiculously delicious. 1 Quote
Ron Posted December 10, 2025 Author Posted December 10, 2025 I'm currently listening my way through Yello's Yello 40 Years through Tidal audio to my stereo system (streamed at 48 kHz/24 bit, which is a greater resolution than that of CD {44.1 kHz/16 bit}) Bowers and Wilkens 683 S2 (a couple of generations behind newer 600 series speakers) and a Marantz AVR (also having become a vintage thing) and a couple of SVR SB3000 subwoofers (still available, because they are just that good). The sound is fantastic! Yello hadn't made a dent in my listening repertoire until recently and I have to say that I'm enjoying their music with great enthusiasm. This release is astounding in the number of songs available without the need to reach into past releases for one's listening pleasure. 1 Quote
Ron Posted December 15, 2025 Author Posted December 15, 2025 “Do you like me? What is it that you like about me?” That’s the thing isn’t it? The crutch for everything! Every man should ask this question of their partner — Before a relationship ensues, and at various times throughout a relationship. The question, of course, shouldn’t be one-sided. 1 Quote
Ron Posted December 18, 2025 Author Posted December 18, 2025 I GOT A BAD NUT! I was snacking on some shelled Salt & Pepper pistachios and listening to Steely Dan’s Gaucho. I was snacking away, a few nuts at time. When suddenly the most foul taste I’ve ever experienced bloomed in mouth. We’re talking a 🤮 worthy experience. I rushed to the garbage can! I spit and spit and spit! Turning around toward the kitchen sink I cupped my hands with water and I swished and swished spitting out each time! I still didn’t feel good about the situation. So I went and brushed my teeth, gums, the roof of my mouth and my tongue. I suppose the morel of my story is that most of the time having a nut is a good thing. 😏 But, in my experience, every nut isn’t be a good nut. Go figure?! 2 1 Quote

Ron Posted December 21, 2025 Author Posted December 21, 2025 I’m making potato and leek soup. My local grocery had long, thick organic leeks that were firm (I don’t mean to come across as salacious — it’s merely implied) which were less expensive than the conventional ones offered at a greater cost (go figure). Cornbread is baking in the oven and the butter is softening on the countertop. I predict a delicious dinner! 🤗 1 3 Quote
Ron Posted December 25, 2025 Author Posted December 25, 2025 I made breakfast for dinner: Two pieces of bacon fried low-and-slow and three eggs fried in the bacon grease. But, I added a twist. Between the fried bacon and eggs I added a heaping, teaspoon of chopped Calabrian peppers to the pan. And then I fried the eggs (just that side of being beyond completely runny, so the yolk oozed). Hooey! Dinner was delicious. Maybe … The best fried eggs I’ve ever eaten. Yummy yummy! 3 Quote

Ron Posted December 27, 2025 Author Posted December 27, 2025 Listening to Fink 'Wheels Turn Beneath My Feet' after a long day of dusting, vacuuming (running a Swifter over the floor for those objects the vacuum missed (oddly, this is a real necessity), among other cleaning endeavors, I am bushed, and I am losing myself in music ... a great pleasure for me. Generally, I am not a fan of 'live concert' music when one considers all the variables for recording it. But this musical recording streaming from Tidal Audio (at CD quality, no less) is outstanding. On my modest sound system the music makes it seem that I am there. That's quite an accomplishment. 1 2 Quote
Ron Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 I have joined the club of ‘Those-Who-Cannot-Stay-Up’ and I am going to bed early enough to miss the official changeover from one year into the next year. 🤷♂️ Happy New Year! Regardless of my pessimistic outlook for the coming year I hope that you and yours escape the worst of what is possibly coming in the coming year. Additionally, my hope is that what’s going to happen doesn’t drag you down too hard. Peace and love! 1 1 2 Quote
Ron Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Whole Foods brown-butter chocolate chip cookies are the bomb! I can’t remember ever having tasted a chocolate chip cookie as savory-delicious as these. I chose the small cookie option, and upon first bite I was blown away by the taste. My salivary glands flooded my mouth to the point of almost drooling onto the napkin right in front of me. Unbelievably delicious. Highly recommended!! 2 1 Quote
