Plus I'm not really a big fan of the "lie and keep kids in the dark". I think it's best to tell them the truth. With the appropriate amount of details and the vocabulary adapted to their age, but saying it as it is. For exemple : Drew you're nice and fun but sometimes you're not the sharpest pen in the box
