Last week I did what I said I would never do again, put my coffee cup near my keyboard. Yup, I spilled it all over my keyboard. Shortly after, it went crazy and now I had no keyboard. I have several older ones (including the one I spilled coffee on last year). Long story short, I had a mouse, but no keyboard. Talk about feeling useless. The next day, my neighbor gave me lift to a Best Buy and I bought one (and a spare).

After I installed it, I was checking my setting pages, and came across a section entitled ' Touch Keyboard ' .

I am still using Windows 10. It seems that if you turn this on, You get a mini keyboard at the bottom of your page, and you can use your mouse to type on it. So in a pinch you can use it until you get a real keyboard replacement. This is such a smart thing, that I am sure Windows 11, must have it also.

I wanted to pass this on to all of you, in case something similar happens to you.

This is my good deed of the day, pass it on and take care.

I'm kinda laughing just at the idea you've had this happen twice! I'm not saying I don't have beverages around my computer, but, I haven't spilled--

OK, I'm shutting up now! Not gonna spill 😂

It's also known as OSK OnScreen Keyboard.

You might consider a waterproof keyboard. They aren't expensive.

I was in the shower yesterday missing my phone... I am a fish but I like electronics too! They need to make them be friends!!! Faster!

They claim some are waterproof, but I'm not taking a bath with one.

Hmm, I have so many questions. Not the least is why don't you have a lid on your cup as you seem prone to getting so excited while reading on GA, I'm assuming it's a @Krista story, that you wave your hands about wildly as Javin slow builds to a beautiful ending.

I can see once, okay I can't, as I have lids on all my beverages, not because I spill them, but because I have cats, but when it happens once, I'd put a lid on it. :)

Though in all seriousness, if something would happen to my laptop, I'd be devastated. Though I do have two other laptops, one brand new that I haven't used because it's pink, and my old one that has so many virus's on it, it might be able to walk away on its own.

Where was I, oh yes, I'm glad you got a new keyboard. That sucks being without. But what is Windows you speak of? :P

I hope the rest of your day is amazing!

As far as waterproof, a couple of years ago I took my brand new iPhone into the ocean with me at Hanauma Bay, Diving with Sharks off the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. I didn't take it in the water snorkeling with turtles off Waikiki as the water was really, really deep and no floor or bottom to catch it if I dropped it :P

Still have the same phone for another month or so until trade in, but the only thing is you cannot plug it in for a few hours after being submerged in water. You need to let the input jack naturally dry out on its own. You get a message if you try too soon. I didn't try a hair dryer as I figured that would melt things 😮

@mastershakeme, yesterday ironically I was talking to a friend and we were supposed to meet up and I couldn't get him to stop talking so I put my phone on speaker into the shower with me :P He asked if what I was doing was showering and when I said yes, he continued talking :gikkle:. Plugged the phone in last night and fully charged this AM.

It is funny though, I have a friend that got the same type of Apple Watch as me and he will not shower with it on, wash hands/dishes, get it wet in anyway, as he doesn't trust that it is waterproof. Yet you hit the exercise button and you can choose between an indoor swim or outdoor swim. Wore it in the ocean, pools, showering everyday and such. But.. he even showed me the feature that ejects any water out of the watch if you do get it wet 🙄

Just be careful, other brands will say water resistant, not waterproof. Don't confuse the too!

As for the keyboard, I have spilt Diet Coke on my keyboard(s) at work and at home and nothing has ever stopped working after a good shake out and waving it around to dry it out. Buttons weren't sticky or anything. @sandrewn, switch to Diet Coke, obviously better for electronics than coffee :gikkle:.

Ohhh, so the reason my phone is so adverse to water is because it's android 😒 I was trying to watch movies in the shower cuz I'm dumb and one day, the port said it was wet and it never functioned the same again. 1000 dollar phone now a brick.

I'm so jelly!!!!! But at the same time, I like all the weird apps I can download with android! I'm just... really stuck on Samsung for some reason.

but omg that watch ejecting water sounds cool. Might have to look that up. I've always thought the watches were a little extra, but.... COOL FEATURE.

and when I saw this post, I looked over at my laptop... I had two giant styrophome cups with sprite sitting on top of it. So, yea, I don't know how I've avoided the liquid in the keyboard, but, now I feel like it's gonna happen for sure.

Yeah, Galaxy S24+.  It's waterresistant 😂. I have the security plan. Replaced for a 100! Electronics are the only thing I'll spend money on, screw clothes and purses and stuff.

I accidentally kicked a glass of water onto a laptop in Singapore (thereby rendering it useless) due to having no furniture (yet) and everything was on the floor: My computer; My former partner; A full glass of water; and Undisciplined feet. ;) Crap happens all too frequently I'm afraid and no one can be blamed.

Awww! Such a cute image!!! I had an apartment like that once, all empty, but full of love ❤️

And I will be back to this thread if my laptop gets wet. And I will be pointing fingers 😂😆

Going to knock on wood right now!!! I am very superstitious
