The Boot three years on. There have been some changes and improvements to The Boot, partly thanks to fund raising and charitable donations, and in part thanks to Christian Edwards benefactor to The Boot. Some 'guests' have moved on, some remaining homeless, but others having been helped are now in independent accommodation either working or looking for work. This is the continued story of The Boot, it's staff and 'guests.'

It is not necessary to read The Boot beforehand but it may help to understand some of what is happening now and in its future.

It’s the early 1950’s in Australia and Ryan Seaton has a dark secret. At twelve years old he’s discovered he’s a homosexual and in that decade being gay could be fatal. Added to that, his mother uses emotional blackmail, making his home-life miserable. Then his best mate confides he’s also gay, but the combined hostility of society, religion and the law, ensures that any relief is short-lived. Tragedy follows.

The decade known as the 1950’s was word-wide, the worst time to be gay, but out of the depths of despair a new period of enlightenment began. This is the story of some young souls living through and surmounting that awful decade.

What do you do when you see a cute boy while out on a routine jog. For William, the youngster takes a much-deserved break, by buying a milkshake in a small plaza, where he sees a boy who catches his interest. What starts off as a curiosity soon builds up to a clumsy mistake and coincidently, ends up making the boys meet face to face. What will be said? Will the cat come out of the bag that William has been infatuated with him for weeks or how William turned up most days at the same time in the court to catch a glimpse?

Shaun’s disabled leg has affected his entire life, causing a downward spiral he neither likes nor can live with. It is not just that his life is on hold, it is now falling backwards. On holiday in Scarborough (A northern English seaside resort), he finally faces the realities of his life and decides to take matters into his own hands. A walk along the town’s promenade to clear his thoughts and to help him make up his mind, if only the town’s numerous seagulls would stop following him.

The location? A science fiction convention outside of Baltimore, circa 1980. Our little group attended all the local conventions and there were a lot of really fun times. Some people would say unusual times, I'd go with different since it wasn't at all unusual to us. Come along and get into my head as I recount some of our adventures at this fateful Balticon.
