Timmy's Journal - 18. Poetry Prompt 16 The Toy Makers Carol

My response to Prompt 16

Okay so AC's December poetry prompt #16 is Carols. Well I imagined writing about glittering snow, creatures of the woodlands, stars etc. However, it wasn't happening, so I said to myself, write something fun then. So here you are, hope it works for you and makes you smile if nothing else.

The Toy Makers Carol

It's always Santa gets the praise
Cuz he flies round the world
He's giving all his fancy toys
to all the girls and boys!

When you play upon your drum
Remember, remember
where your toys come from

For three hundred and fifty days
You’ll find us working hard
He forgets when he boards the sled;
Decked out in white and red

When you play upon your drum
Remember, remember
where your toys come from

Oh and don’t forget the reindeer
With Rudolph’s big red nose
Our Santa would be lost you know
Adrift in all that snow

When you play upon your drum
Remember, remember
where your toys come from

So at Christmas time please recall!
The ones who work so hard
Painting the toys and stocking shelves
It’s just us – Santa’s Elves!

When you play upon your drum
Remember, remember
where your toys come from

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

Hi Tim! I like the concept a lot; we hear about Santa out in front, but not too much about his support staff, lol

As a Carol, it hits the points I had in mind with the prompt, namely, a beautifully lyric back and forth (here with 8 and 6 syllable lines), and a great refrain that can be repeated after each verse.

I would love to hear the music for this… Any GA composers out there willing to volunteer…?

Thanks for taking the challenge, and for posting a really charming example. Loved it!

All those elves, toiling away! I can hear the busy-ness and see them hammering away. Though nowadays, they're probably pretty good at injection molding machines and 3-D CAD design, too. Great Carol!

Hey Parker.. yeah, im sure they use 3d printers now.. it was fun to write this.. thanks for the review.
