Aditus' prompts and circumstances - 27. Poetry Prompt 16 - Carol - An Early Gift

Write one Carol suitable for the month of December. Have fun, but provide a lyric set of stanzas (I'd say about 4 or 5) and a refrain. Use any metre or rhyme scheme you feel is best.

Two naughty children have a plan

And cookies are the bait.

In camouflage with camera

They’re targeting the plate.

A picture proving he exists

But Santa he is the late.

A dare, a wish, a secret thought

A precious gift that Santa brought.

Four tiny feet creep down the stairs,

Till they reach the landing

To sneak a peek at Santa Claus

With Daddy he’s standing

But what is this? They joke and kiss!

Answers they’re demanding!

A dare, a wish, a secret thought

A precious gift that Santa brought.

Santa explains on Christmas Eve

He grants an early gift

To those who didn’t dare to wish

He’s always extra swift

If daddy wants, he’ll quit the job

Another takes his shift.

A dare, a wish, a secret thought

A precious gift that Santa brought.

A crazy one. My only excuse is I spent last Sunday with my nice and nephews and their friends.
Im my mind I hummed Good King Weceslas while I wrote this. :*)

I like how the refrain works, pulling us back to 'what's important.'

What I get from the scene described - and like a lot - is how it seems the kids are watching their parents re-inact that famous "I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" moment. That's very charming, I think!

I had everything but the refrain. All I could come up with was somehow meh. I went to bed and -zing- there was the refrain. :)

Thanks for your kind words, AC, and always for the prompt.
