One Hundred and Fifty-Five Sonnets - 17. heartbeat

.

Sonnet No. 33

Why do we have a brain, if not to think –

Why a heart, if not to have it broken,

And so common wisdom would have us sink

To the state that nothing can be spoken.

Frustrated and sad that they can't let us be;

That a boy-loving boy is no big deal,

And there's no point in denying what they see,

That people join because of what they feel.

So if I ask you to take my hand now –

So if for your love I ask forever,

Will you sanctify blessings to avow

That love is love, despite all endeavor?

Heart and mind, the universe in us beats,

And in measure all enmity defeats.

Sonnet No. 34

You bring comfort to an unquiet soul;

Your pillow is the sail that me protects

To luff back under your watchful control

A rocky mind, cliff-faced with impending wrecks.

You ask me to tell how much I love you –

I say, as the sky loves the rising air;

As birds the currents holding them move through;

As Justice loves for all things to be fair.

The down of my dreams is what I may sleep on,

But next to you, I soar above the crags;

If my eyes hold your image as my sun,

I will sail to where our hope never flags.

I love you as God should everyone,

The perfect love beyond comparison.

AC, 33 of course your live-poets have seen and it is beautiful. Tony was a lucky boy to be loved by such a word-smith and all who buy the Love Is Love book for Orlando will see it too. It is perfect. I could read it daily and never tire of it.
34 is love described. Feelings made real with our imperfect language. Not an easy feat for most of us but you make it seem easy, like birds riding the thermals. Beautiful, AC and I’ve said often, no one writes about men in love like you do.

Wow!!! :wub: All I can see is Love. My Screen is looking full of Love. All filled with Love. Am I ranting. I don't mind though. Cause I am enjoying the Love surrounded me. You are great, just great.

You have given clear cut meaning of Love and how it can be boundary-less. And there is nothing wrong in sharing it with anyone you wanted. I'll say 'Love is Love' and its 'Everywhere'... :D

Loved it Ben. Loved it so much... :)

Oh, Tim, your praise of No. 33 is so kind. The never tire of it sentiment is very touching; thank you. I like No. 34 a lot and remember it was a challenge to write.

Thanks once again for all of your support. I appreciate it a great deal.

As tim said, AC #34 is breathtakingly beautiful.

You paint that love so clearly.

The pillow and sails and down show its softness,

The birds and currents and sun reveal its reach,

Justice and dreams and hope render its quality.

Wow, that's good!

Thank you, skinnydragon. This is a kind and generous review, and No. 34 is beautifully summarized by you. A 'wow that's good' is all I could hope to ask for.

Thanks for a wonderful set of comments, and for all of your support. Cheers, my friend :)

Thank you, Emi; love it when I make you feel like 'ranting' : ) I also love your comment that I have a achieved a sense of boundary-free commitment with these two Sonnets. I tried.

Clear-cut is also a great compliment, so I thank you from the bottom of may heart for all of your support and enthusiasm. धन्यवाद

Thoughts on No.34.
Isn't the answer to the question "how much do you love me?" almost impossible to give ? There is no standard to measure love; we all use different rulers. Yet in this nautical poem you try to give the answer through relative comparisons, each with their own immeasurable measurements. The best of all being the last two lines, that any poser of the question should be completely satisfied with and extremely proud of if given as an anwer.

Such a beautiful review; I feel humbled. Gosh, the bit about relative comparisons, each with their own immeasurable measurements, gives me goose bumps. It's so wonderful, thank you from the bottom of my soul.
