Goldstein Johnson & Cole (2024 re-write) - Prologue. Prologue

An introduction to Ian and Kevin's story which gives some background. I hope you will enjoy it.
The original story was posted in 2022 and is set in 2011. As a story that includes some international travel there is some mention of the conflict that existed then and still exists today. The story is not about the conflict, nor does it take sides or make any statement in defence of either party involved in the conflict.

Part of the Lost Soul Series and The Boot World. This is Ian and Kevin's story and is set in 2011. This is a re-write of the original story posted in 2022. It is more than an edit which corrects poor grammar and punctuation. With the help of Raven1, the story has been expanded with added dialogue and descriptive text, making it more engaging and informative.

The Boot has been re-incarnated as The New Boot and has been operational for almost eighteen months. However, this is not about The New Boot. It is about Ian and Kevin.

All the staff and volunteers have separate lives away from The New Boot. Ian and Kevin are no different. This is their story. It is set in the Summer of 2011 when they move from a rented flat in The Northern Quarter of Manchester to their own house in Prestwich, where they hope to continue to build their future.

Their friend Christian, who they regarded as a brother, had helped them to move into the flat and had been a great support. The Major, known to some as Ox, was another great friend and regarded by both as a father figure. Ian and Kevin's circle of friends had grown, and many of those friendships developed into what is now their 'created' family.

Kevin attended Manchester Metropolitan University and graduated with honours after studying accountancy and business management. Ian discovered a love for creating jewellery and gained an apprenticeship with Manny Goldstein in his jewellery shop. Manny became more than a mentor to Ian and, over time, became a second father figure to Ian and Kevin.

Moving into the large house in Prestwich is an exciting time for them. They hoped, in time, to foster and possibly adopt. They wanted to have a family, the same as their friends Kate and Steve and Max and Stacy. Both couples had adopted the boys they fostered.

As many couples do on their first night in their new house, they spend time reflecting on their past and looking forward to their future plans. However, they were taken aback by some unexpected news that completely changed their lives. This unexpected news also gave them a glimpse into the past of their friend, Manny Goldstein.

This is a re-write of the original story posted in 2022. It is more than an edit which corrects poor grammar and punctuation. It also contains added dialogue and descriptive text which expands and tells their story better and has been achieved with the help of @raven1.

Hey Scrubber!  I do hope you like the changes.  One of the goals was to develop the characters and provide more insight into their thoughts and feelings.  That includes Joseph and Benjamin also.

@Mancunian, having read the previous Lost Souls and The Boot series during the COVID years, I had enjoyed Ian & Keith's story, in spite of some errors and other issues that caught my 'Editor's Eye'. (making for a less fluid and enjoyable read). Not that the series was rife with typos, plot, continuity and other errors, because they were not, but they were there.

I look forward to reading your revised re-telling or re-write. Why? Well to quote a wartime reporter who later went on to create some noteworthy tales of his own: "The only (best) kind of writing is re-writing". And by his own admission (and comments by his wives and co-workers that he created "mounds of balled paper").

That re-writer was Ernest Hemingway.

I hope you will enjoy the rewrite. It may not be perfect still, but I think it is greatly improved by the editing that has taken place and by the added dialogue and descriptive text which I feel enhances the story.

A similar exercise is being carried out on The Boot Three Years On. More stories will also be added to The Boot World in the future.

This was a great bit of information to include in your comment.  I really appreciate the ability to use computers and the internet so Craig and I can work together without creating "mounds of balled paper"!  I saved all the chapter files I edited, beta, and rewrote for these stories.  There are over 100 files on my computer. I'm sure that Craig has about the same number since we actively exchanged files back and forth as I edited and made suggestions and Craig rewrote the story.  Like Craig I hope you like the rewrite.

I had to do a clear-out on my computer as the files were mounting up and it was starting to become confusing. lol :gikkle:

Thanks @drsawzall! I really appreciate your kind comment.  I enjoy working with you very much.  Although you and Craig write quite different kinds of stories, you both are easy to work with.

I should probably do that too.  It would free up enough space for a couple of naughty movies. 😈😁
