Weekly Wrap Up (Mar. 30 - Apr. 5)

Just rolled in at 1:30 AM local time! No, I was not out drinking with Brad. Ironically I was at Brad's playing poker . Not high stakes poker, but the kind that a bunch of guys, all of them married but me, and I the token gay guy, get together and and have a drink and play some rounds and bs and rib each others 🎴. Needless to say I contributed my $20 for 2 games and came home with nothing   One guy there was telling us of how he is starting an online business auctioneering things, and he was

The poetry anthology will be going live next week, so today I wanted to remind everyone of another upcoming writing event - Comicality's tribute.  May 2nd would have been Comicality's 50th birthday, so we are honoring him by featuring a tribute to his memory - Coming of Age.  The deadline for submissions is April 25th.  Check out the guidelines here:   Also coming up this year is the Secret Author contest this summer, the Creature Feature anthology this fall, followed by another Promp

March CSR Discussion Day: In His Image by ChromedOutCortex

Did you manage to read this month's CSR Feature, In His Image, by ChromedOutCortex? It was very short, under 4k, so you can also go read it now! Be sure to share your thoughts on the story below, after you also check out my interview with this month's featured author!  Chocolate or Vanilla? ** Vanilla, then you can pile on whatever you want. 🙂 If you were an animal, what would you be? ** Wild horse - they run free, not worried about what's around the corner, exploring their e

Thinking I had a lot of time to get to my first appointment  I didn't really get up early enough to go 4X4ing through the snow and slush that covered the roads. No plows, no sanding, it is the joy of living in Calgary at the end of March and through April. It is warm enough that most of the snow melts within 24 hours or

Weekly Wrap Up (Mar. 16 - Mar. 22)

Oh Lordy, lordy! What day is it? When trying to put in the title of the Weekly Wrap Up it took me about 5 times until I looked at the calendar on the bottom right of my computer.   Yes, when most of North America and the rest of the world have flipped the calendar to March 23rd, I'm still stuck in the 22nd  I guess the great thing that happened a few days ago was that Spring has sprung 🌈. In my neck of the woods that means that April and May snowstorms bring June flowers .  So I

Diversity Exercise #2

We're getting down to the wire for submissions to the annual Poetry Anthology.  Submissions are due March 30th, so there is about a week and a half to get your links posted to the thread in the Anthology forum of the Writer's Circle.  I'm really looking forward to reading the different interpretations of "Diversity".   I thought it would be fun to do another exercise using the Diversity theme.  This would be a great jumping off point for poems for the anthology *hint hint*  We can create a

March Signature Feature: Pardon my Polari by Dodger

Length: 12,647 Description: The story of Anthony Larkin, his struggle against injustice, and the evolution of gay rights in the UK. The characters in this story occasionally converse in Polari—a secret slang adopted by gay men in the UK during the fifties and sixties to evade prosecution. The Polari words are in italics, and translations are provided in the chapter end notes. A Reader said: A very realistic look back at one of the darker parts of UK history. There is humour, t

Weekly Wrap Up (Mar. 2 - Mar. 8)

It is time for my bi-annual reminder to change your clocks if you are in a area that does that . This is the start of Daylight Savings Time, so that means we are springing forward and losing one hour of sleep. In preparation, I had a nice nap this afternoon   A question for you. I can't ask what age you are, as that is a no no in today's internets  so please don't supply it !! But I'm more curious when you retire, if you are retired, does the time switch mess you up? I know a lot of retired

Poetry Anthology 101

The deadline for the annual poetry anthology - Diversity - is fast approaching!  I'm really looking forward to reading what everyone comes up with on this important topic.  Since I've had some questions come up about the posting procedure for the anthologies, I'm going to break them down and hope this helps when it comes time to upload your poems.  Cia has created a step-by-step tutorial with screenshots, which I will link to below.  Myr recently updated it to ensure it is as up to date as possi

March CSR Feature: In His Image by ChromedOutCortex

For this longer month, I've actually chosen a short story for the CSR blog readers. I think sometimes the longer a month is, the more I feel the need to cram into my life, or the more I have going on, and the less I have time to just... be. That time to stop, reflect, and take stock of what is truly important is a huge part of In His Image by ChromedOutCortex. Please check it out and come back to share your thoughts at the end of the month! In His Image @ChromedOutCortex Length: 3

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 23 - Mar. 1)

I'm writing this blog on Saturday, so it happens to be World Compliment Day. Now most are reading it on Sunday, so let's pretend it is still Saturday . Now I handed out a lot of personal compliments today, but then @Valkyrie replied and ruined my day! How rude!! I do think I am above her taunts and meaniness, so let me move forward and compliment each and everyone of you that help make GA a great place to be! You may not realize it, but even the smallest things like joining and coming to visit,

Anthologies Check-In

Submissions are coming in for both the Diversity poetry anthology and Creature Feature fall anthology.  I think we've set some kind of record because I've received not one, not two, but three submissions already for Creature Feature!  Not bad for an event that's still six months down the road.  Based on what I've read so far, this is going to be a fantastic anthology!  There's also two submissions for the poetry anthology, which is only a month away.  So, how is everyone doing with their antholo

February CSR Discussion Day: Just Keep Swimming by JJ Quinn

Well this month has flown by! I can't tell if I was 'just keep swimming' against the flood of my life or if life was sweeping me along. Sometimes we have to pause and evaluate what's happening and where we go from here, like Liam in JJ Quinn's story, Just Keep Swimming. I hope you enjoyed this month's CSR selection and have some comments to share below, but first, my interview with him!  Chocolate or Vanilla? We’re eating vanilla ice cream all the way, especially with an obscene excess

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 16 - Feb. 22)

Hi everyone! Not sure what happened last week where some said they got two different blogs for the Weekly Wrap-Up, but I didn't. Are you all sure you weren't out late at a pub/bar the night before you got home . Perhaps with Brad and Steve?    Now I know that sports sometimes flies in GA like a lead balloon, but humour me  Over that past week or so, instead of a NHL All-Star Game and break, they got the 4 most represented countries (less Russia) in the NHL, and had a tournament called the 4

Author Guess Who - Promo

Want to play a game? Wait, what? Ack! Someone get this weird puppet-looking thing and red tricycle out of here!  But how 'bout it, gang? I'm dusting off Author Guess Who and itching to get a few authors in the interview booth. For those of you not familiar with AGW, it's a lovely blog game where one of GA's authors answers some interesting (sometimes strange) questions, then you, the readers, have to guess who it is! For example:  If you step on the purple portal pad with the sign,
