March Signature Feature: Pardon my Polari by Dodger

Length: 12,647 Description: The story of Anthony Larkin, his struggle against injustice, and the evolution of gay rights in the UK. The characters in this story occasionally converse in Polari—a secret slang adopted by gay men in the UK during the fifties and sixties to evade prosecution. The Polari words are in italics, and translations are provided in the chapter end notes. A Reader said: A very realistic look back at one of the darker parts of UK history. There is humour, t

Weekly Wrap Up (Mar. 2 - Mar. 8)

It is time for my bi-annual reminder to change your clocks if you are in a area that does that . This is the start of Daylight Savings Time, so that means we are springing forward and losing one hour of sleep. In preparation, I had a nice nap this afternoon   A question for you. I can't ask what age you are, as that is a no no in today's internets  so please don't supply it !! But I'm more curious when you retire, if you are retired, does the time switch mess you up? I know a lot of retired

Poetry Anthology 101

The deadline for the annual poetry anthology - Diversity - is fast approaching!  I'm really looking forward to reading what everyone comes up with on this important topic.  Since I've had some questions come up about the posting procedure for the anthologies, I'm going to break them down and hope this helps when it comes time to upload your poems.  Cia has created a step-by-step tutorial with screenshots, which I will link to below.  Myr recently updated it to ensure it is as up to date as possi

March CSR Feature: In His Image by ChromedOutCortex

For this longer month, I've actually chosen a short story for the CSR blog readers. I think sometimes the longer a month is, the more I feel the need to cram into my life, or the more I have going on, and the less I have time to just... be. That time to stop, reflect, and take stock of what is truly important is a huge part of In His Image by ChromedOutCortex. Please check it out and come back to share your thoughts at the end of the month! In His Image @ChromedOutCortex Length: 3

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 23 - Mar. 1)

I'm writing this blog on Saturday, so it happens to be World Compliment Day. Now most are reading it on Sunday, so let's pretend it is still Saturday . Now I handed out a lot of personal compliments today, but then @Valkyrie replied and ruined my day! How rude!! I do think I am above her taunts and meaniness, so let me move forward and compliment each and everyone of you that help make GA a great place to be! You may not realize it, but even the smallest things like joining and coming to visit,

Anthologies Check-In

Submissions are coming in for both the Diversity poetry anthology and Creature Feature fall anthology.  I think we've set some kind of record because I've received not one, not two, but three submissions already for Creature Feature!  Not bad for an event that's still six months down the road.  Based on what I've read so far, this is going to be a fantastic anthology!  There's also two submissions for the poetry anthology, which is only a month away.  So, how is everyone doing with their antholo

February CSR Discussion Day: Just Keep Swimming by JJ Quinn

Well this month has flown by! I can't tell if I was 'just keep swimming' against the flood of my life or if life was sweeping me along. Sometimes we have to pause and evaluate what's happening and where we go from here, like Liam in JJ Quinn's story, Just Keep Swimming. I hope you enjoyed this month's CSR selection and have some comments to share below, but first, my interview with him!  Chocolate or Vanilla? We’re eating vanilla ice cream all the way, especially with an obscene excess

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 16 - Feb. 22)

Hi everyone! Not sure what happened last week where some said they got two different blogs for the Weekly Wrap-Up, but I didn't. Are you all sure you weren't out late at a pub/bar the night before you got home . Perhaps with Brad and Steve?    Now I know that sports sometimes flies in GA like a lead balloon, but humour me  Over that past week or so, instead of a NHL All-Star Game and break, they got the 4 most represented countries (less Russia) in the NHL, and had a tournament called the 4

Author Guess Who - Promo

Want to play a game? Wait, what? Ack! Someone get this weird puppet-looking thing and red tricycle out of here!  But how 'bout it, gang? I'm dusting off Author Guess Who and itching to get a few authors in the interview booth. For those of you not familiar with AGW, it's a lovely blog game where one of GA's authors answers some interesting (sometimes strange) questions, then you, the readers, have to guess who it is! For example:  If you step on the purple portal pad with the sign,

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 9 - Feb. 15)

What up, guyz?   Don't you like old men that try to talk like they are young? Oh wait, do we have any young people here ? I guess when I think young, I think of like 20 and under, not sure why. Actually I do, I guess I don't consider myself that old. They say you are only as old as you feel. I guess I am older when I get up in the morning and then I'm back to a teenager as the day gets later, watching late night talk shows at night, and then wondering why I feel so old in the morning .

Diverse Diversity

Before I get into today's blog, I just want to say how thrilled I am that submissions for both anthologies have started coming in! I'm loving the enthusiasm.  You guys are what make this site so amazing ⭐   Now back to today's regularly scheduled blog feature... Diverse Connections

When I interviewed for a job a few years ago, one of the questions they asked me was "what does diversity mean to you, and why is it important?".  I told a story in that interview about a woman I had worked with at my old job who uses a wheelchair and is also non-speaking.  She had a communication device and was capable of using it; however, she wasn't very motivated to do so.  She frequently refused therapy and was depressed.  I knew her abilities and things that she enjoyed doing in the past,
