February Signature Feature: Clouded Purity by Cynus

What do you do when you love something or someone so much that you have to make the hardest decisions of all? This story is Book 2 in Cynus' series, The Trial, so I really recommend you read them all in order if you enjoy fantasy work in order to be able to understand this one. But it's worth it!  Description: Eight centuries before Salidar thulu-Khant's reign, the world was much different. Technology, not magic, defined the world, though political machinations and civil unrest had pu

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 9 - Feb. 15)

What up, guyz?   Don't you like old men that try to talk like they are young? Oh wait, do we have any young people here ? I guess when I think young, I think of like 20 and under, not sure why. Actually I do, I guess I don't consider myself that old. They say you are only as old as you feel. I guess I am older when I get up in the morning and then I'm back to a teenager as the day gets later, watching late night talk shows at night, and then wondering why I feel so old in the morning .

Diverse Diversity

Before I get into today's blog, I just want to say how thrilled I am that submissions for both anthologies have started coming in! I'm loving the enthusiasm.  You guys are what make this site so amazing ⭐   Now back to today's regularly scheduled blog feature... One of the reasons I chose the theme "Diversity" for our poetry anthology is because poetry is... well... diverse.  There are so many forms to choose from, and exploring those forms can be a fun aspect of writing poe

Weekly Wrap Up (Feb. 2 - Feb. 8)

Interesting day I had today   First went to a ringette game on one side of the city. Then off off to a flag football game in the central area of the city. Then to a youngins, U14 hockey game in the south side of the city. Finally a Junior B hockey game outside of the city in a neighbouring city. Two games my team won, two they tied. Now you get to guess which were the ties and the wins . Oh, I did come home after.  I was thinking on my drive home that I need to get traveling. I realize

Diverse Connections

When I interviewed for a job a few years ago, one of the questions they asked me was "what does diversity mean to you, and why is it important?".  I told a story in that interview about a woman I had worked with at my old job who uses a wheelchair and is also non-speaking.  She had a communication device and was capable of using it; however, she wasn't very motivated to do so.  She frequently refused therapy and was depressed.  I knew her abilities and things that she enjoyed doing in the past,

Ask An Author 3.0 #40

Apologies all around. I'm running a little late with posting, but I'm also a little under the weather. I blame the fluctuating temperatures. Sixty-five Fahrenheit in January, then back down to near-freezing? Nonsense!  But I'll tell you what isn't nonsense, and that's this month's interview for Ask An Author. We got GA's finest Signature Author when it comes to historical fiction, folks. Before I go back down for another nap, here's @Mark Arbour! • • • • • Mark Arbour 33 Stor

Weekly Wrap Up (Jan. 25 - Feb. 1)

Oh well, at least February is only 28 days this year I find February the most boring month of the year. We are about to head into the -20 to -30 C or -12 to 18 F this upcoming week  That might be why I hate it. Have to tell my annual February joke too! If you are a farmer, you cannot look at it  No posting it in the chat below either   As I mention the weather, someone I know said I chose to live here . When I thought about it, I came to the realization at the age I am, I have chose

Diversity Exercise

Diversity is a topic that has been on my mind lately, which is perfect timing since it's the theme of our annual Poetry Anthology.  One of the things I love about my job is the diverse nature of the individuals I serve.  I've gotten a bunch of new referrals lately; many from cultures I am only rudimentarily familiar with.  So, I've been doing a lot of research to ensure I account for these individuals cultural heritage and beliefs when providing services.   I recently attended a continuing

2025 Anthology - Creature Feature - Guidelines

I'm super excited about this year's theme!  There are so many possibilities.... Do I go with a cute fluffy kitty?  Or maybe a fire-breathing dragon?  Or an army of Norse penguins fighting Canadian otters?   It's a good thing there's a lot of time before the deadline, although with my prowess at procrastinating, I probably won't start till the week it's due   The guidelines for this year's anthology are posted below.  So now that we know the theme and the parameters... start writing!
