    Summer Resolutions, Anyone?

    By Aditus

This year I’m going to clear out the shed. I’ll try this long hike someone recommended. I won’t sleep in every day.  I’ll eat healthy, all these yummy vegetables and fruit that are available now. I will finish the story that has been on hold for so long. Summer break starts on Monday, and I have a very long list. What about you? Maybe try to write a prompt story?   PT Prompt #352   Dale bought an ice cream maker, but vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry are just about that

Dog Tired Commuter

I spent the last couple of weeks commuting back and forth to Gulfport. I was doing a job overseeing the installation of a business network. Actually- the business was rebuilt after a certain be-yach of a hurricane blew most of it to Wiggins. It took almost a year to get a construction company that wasn't booked up.   They must be well practiced as they went from concrete slab to interior finishing in Three weeks. It's like watching mushrooms pop up after the rain.   I see some definite adva

"Beautiful" - pardon the narcissism

Everyday is so Wonderful   I like a lot of songs. In fact I like almost all songs, but if I had to pick a favourite song a permanent favourite, not just a "flavour of the week", it would be Beautiful by Christina Aguilera. I really do feel like everyday is so wonderful.   So I just finished that book that I mentioned in an earlier blog, Outing Yourself. Basically...I thought it was a load of crap. I guess some parts were useful, and interesting, but mostly I just finished it because I'm

out along the edges, always where I burn to be...

Another Friday gone but no hangover. Yippee. Not that there wasn't drinking. We actually got started around 5 pm, but mostly stayed away from anything other than beer, so no one really ended up in ridiculously bad shape. Like 9 of us had decided to have a little cookout, and of course it rained all day, but that didn't stop us. There was a balcony overhead blocking most of the rain, so it worked okay. If anyone's wondering, I had a veggie burger and they're really good done over charcoal. We als

shit happens, to me... all in the same week, ugh!

Okay so I'll go ahead and give you all fair warning now... I have had a crap week and this will probably be a crap blog... you know, Viv, whining and complaining, only in the end to realize she's being dumb and ungrateful... so if you choose to stay and read... I won't be held responsible   So let's see...   We'll start with Thursday... My daughter turned 11 Happy Birthday Punkin! I suggested to Rich that since we aren't having the kids birthday parties for a few weeks still, that we take

What makes me proud

Well, 9/11 came and went and there were all kinds of shows on TV about that day, and even one about the events leading up to it. I guess to me 9/11 represents something to be proud of. On that day when almost 3000 people lost their lives in the worst attack on our soil, we came together as a nation and for a little while, we weren't democrats and republicans. We were Americans. All of that seems to be gone now. In it's place, we have a country so divided that you can't talk about what happened

thoughts on life

I found a dimpled spider, fat and white, On a white heal-all, holding up a moth Like a white piece of rigid satin cloth- Assorted characters of death and blight Mixed ready to begin the morning right, Like ingredients of a witches' broth- A snow-drop spider, a flower like froth, And dead wings carried like a paper kite.   What had that flower to do with being white, The wayside blue and innocent heal-all? What brought that kindred spider to that height, Then steered the white moth th

First day at work

Well, today was my first day at my new job. The commute is about an hour each way, which really sucks, but I only have to tough it out for a month or two until I can get my own place. That should cut the commute down to 20-30 minutes. The work is actually quite complicated and there's tons of stuff to remember, a complex computer system and series of databases to learn, etc. I'm very familiar with the translation industry and linguistics (which is important for quality control and just knowing h

Writing

Well, I have actually finished my entry for the Fall Anthology! Of course, according to Word the word count is 10,099... I'm hoping no one will notice those teeny tiny extra 99 words   Am going to submit it as soon as I decide on a title. I hate coming up with titles. With me, either the title is the FIRST thing I think of and then write the story around it, or I can't think of a thing. I am torn between two titles at the moment. One is the one I really want--but I think it may not mak

Hangover, anyone?

I feel like total crap today, and I can't even exactly remember if it was worth it.   There were like 8 of us that went to this bar, which was unbelievably crowded and loud. There was this band playing and I don't think I heard a thing anyone said to me all night. I just sort of started pretending I knew what was going on and shaking my head. It's hard to tell what I might've agreed to.   It's been a loooong time since I had that much to drink, and now I remember why I'm always swearing I'

Sorting it out

Ok, so the first week of school is over and shockingly enough, I haven't got any major catastophic events to write about. The work seems pretty simple (so far) and it's kinda nice not to be at the bottom of the food chain anymore. Last year wasn't so bad, as far as being a freshman went, but it's nice to be able to say I'm a sophomore. I had a good talk with my dad yesterday on the way home from the doctors office. I had an appointment at 11 and had to leave school at 9:30, and on the way back

I resigned

Yep, I resigned from the WST yesterday. I almost regret doing, it but not quite. when I joined the team, I had hoped to make a diffrence, but with work going into overdrive, and the committee responsabilities, I found that I was starting to miss my writing more and more.   I also found that my stress levels had gotten to the point where everything was starting to push me toward a depressive mood swing. The one thing that confirmed my need to resign was one word. when something is bought it t

VAMPIRES (rambling)

Ok here are the true Vampire facts that I unfortunatly learned   Within hours of being bitten, the victim develops a headache, fever, chills and other flu-like symptoms as the body tries to fight off the infection. These symptoms can be easily confused with more common viral infections, although the presence of bite marks on the body are usually enough to confirm the diagnosis. This stage generally lasts between six and twelve hours.Within 24 hours of being bitten, the victim will slip into a

How come a day off is never REALLY a day off?

The answer to that, my friends, is... a) I'm a grown up b ) I'm a mom c) I'm a wife d) I'm a control freak e) All of the above... If you guessed 'e' folks... you would be correct.   But in bigger and better news... It's my baby's birthday today! So that means that eleven years ago today... I was having my first baby and... trying not to die, almost literally... But, she's eleven today, obviously, and as much as I whine about her attitude and her... normal young girl behavior, she is

Borland is Back!

Back in the eighties if you had anything to do with computer programming, Borland's Turbo Pascal and Turbo C were all the rage. Borland created Intergrated Development Environments (IDEs) that allowed programmers to write, edit, compile and debug code all in one program. Since then, IDEs have become something of an industry standard like JavaBeans and Eclipse.   Well, Borland is back!   You can download for free Turbo Explorer compilers for C++, C# and Delphi. Free is always the right pric

I got a job! Woo-hoo!

I just got a call from the translation company I interviewed at about a month ago, the first interview I went on. They called me last week to tell me that they were about ready to bring me on board, but just needed to check out my references. Today, they called me with the official offer to be their new project manager, and will be paying me $40K a year, plus benefits, free parking, etc., etc. I'll be starting next Monday, and I'm VERY relieved to finally have something. It's not what I want to

A thousand posts later

The following is a list of people who, one way or another, helped me get to a thousand posts here at Gay Authors. If I wasn't fighting with you in the soapbox about Hurricane Katrina, I was saying something irritating on an author forum somewhere to make your blood boil or make you say, "I agree" Or maybe you said, WTF??? A lot of the people listed here are dont post here anymore, but maybe they still come by to read the forums and the blogs, and if they do, thanks. I couldn't have done it wit

A perfect day!

***Warning this blog entry is long, rambling, and insanely enthusiastic and cheerful (and a real delight to write). I'll definitely looks like a stupid, ditzy, flammer. So read at your own risk ***   Hey Everyone!   So I know I said I was going to write about something "heavy" and I still intend to, but I just had too awesome of a day today. So Instead I'm going to talk about that!   So first of all I stayed up all night relaxing and reading. Then in the morning Vance got on and we ch

More kitten pics

Took more pics of Little Girl and her new babies. She is a very good mama and tends to lie on top of them when anyone wants to look at them Of course, they don't really like that very much. But I have managed to get a decent pic of the babies all happily dining:     I stole one of the babies while Little Girl was eating and took this pic. Strange color. Four of them have similar coloring. The fifth one is darker and may be black or dark tiger.     Edit: Well, we have MORE bab
