    Summer Resolutions, Anyone?

    By Aditus

This year I’m going to clear out the shed. I’ll try this long hike someone recommended. I won’t sleep in every day.  I’ll eat healthy, all these yummy vegetables and fruit that are available now. I will finish the story that has been on hold for so long. Summer break starts on Monday, and I have a very long list. What about you? Maybe try to write a prompt story?   PT Prompt #352   Dale bought an ice cream maker, but vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry are just about that

European Spacecraft strikes the Moon

Spacecraft strikes Moon with intense flash September 3, 2006 Hazel Muir for NewScientist.com Source Link   The SMART-1 lunar probe crashed into the Moon right on cue on Sunday morning. Mission controllers at the European Space Agency lost contact with the probe at 0542 GMT, indicating that it had struck close to the planned landing site on the lunar

Babies

Went to the Fonda Fair tonight. They had one normal demolition derby and one farm combine demolition derby. This is the first year they had one of those and it didn't quite go as planned. They ended up with only 2 combines--an International and a John Deere. They had planned on 2 more, but they couldn't get them running. But it was different. It was dark and my camera battery was low, so I didn't get a great pic--and only of the International. That's the one that won, though. The John De

I don't understand it* Updated on Sunday

:Authors Note::::::: I realize that this isn't the original post....however, I decided that the point I was trying to make was taken by everyone loud and clear, and there's no sense in leaving my past rant in place. I'm not sorry that I posted it here, but I don't see the need to keep it up. I made my opinions known, and everyone's had the chance to read what I said and to form their own opinion. I love this site and I always will. I would never do anything to take away from the purpose of it,

Yes, I'd love some cheese with this whine

Well, I started a job Monday. No way I could possibly live on unemployment and I haven't even gotten a call in response to any resumes I have sent. So when you can't seem to get a job in your field, you have to take what you can get. So I am doing something that doesn't use any part of my brain at all. I get a list, find the products on huge warehouse shelves and move it onto a truck. Lovely. Fun. The money isn't bad--nearly what I was making in my real job. But the hours suck.   Which

Animal testing and the Joy of Gay Sex

{Paraphrased scene from Friends}   Ross to Susan as he surveys their book collection: "You guys sure have a lot of books about being a lesbian" Susan: "Yeah, well you have to pass a test or the won't let you do it"   So I was at Barnes & Noble and I realized that my own personal library was completely devoid of books about being gay. So I sauntered (I was going for a gay book after all) over to the Gay Studies section. A long with three other titles (I'm also now the proud owner of Th

The Classified Ad (story)

I was thumbing through the Want Ads in the Maricopa County Tribune when this classified advertisement caught my eye. It said, "Take immediate delivery on this 1957 Chevrolet half-ton pickup truck. Will sell or swap for a hide-a-bed and thirty-five bucks. Call 602-265-5550 ring two, and ask for Bob."   Well, I called Bob up on the telephone, he says, "Hello, this is Bob speaking." I says "This here the Bob that got the pickup truck for sale?" He says, "Yeah." I says, "Where are ya?" He says,

The Boy (story)

Well I found him sitting on a Sioux City park bench one cold November afternoon. Me.. I was just drifting thru. He said he was 14 and he was running away from home, and no he wouldn't mind some company. So I sat down and smoked my last cigarette he pulled out a candy bar. And we started talking about the how's and the why's and we watched the first snow start to fall. I said "Hey little dude", now I know the whole world looks a lot better to you now, but you know, you gotta hold onto your home c

The Little Brown Sparrow (poem)

One green April morning when I was a young boy I lay by the window watching the rain And I wondered if ever the sun would come shining So I could go somewhere to play   Then down from the sky flew a little brown sparrow And he landed on a branch of an old willow tree And he sit there watching as I lay wondering Just the little brown sparrow and me   Then he looked in my window and spied his reflection There was the willow, there was the sky And he wondered if ever the sun w

Alferd Packer (poem)

Alfred Packer the guy who had a few friends for dinner back in 1874 was the only person in the U.S.A. who was ever convicted of cannibalism. Late in January of 1874 the 6 men found shelter and food at Chief Ouray's camp near Montrose, Colorado. On February 9th, Packer and five companions left the camp, contrary to the advice of Ouray. Packer arrived alone at the Los Pinos Indian Agency, near Saguache, Colorado on April 16th, 1874. He was fat and had plenty of money. He admitted that he had live

Breaking the chains

I've experienced a moment of pure and total bliss......I won't get into the details, but I can finally say that I decided to take the opportunity to do something for myself and stop the cycle of stress that came with a really bad decision. (sigh of relief) I would just like to say right now that if there's any author out there who needs some help whether it's with editing or just someone to look at their work and get an honest review or some advice, I'm always willing to help. It's true that I'm

NFC Preview

NFC 2006 Preview/Predictions     NFC North   Bears- the Bears have improved steadily over the last 3 years. With a draft that improved their depth on both sides of the ball and 22 starters back from their division winning team of last season, I expect them to continue this trend. If they can add some punch to their passing game, they could make some noise in the playoffs. They are the team to beat in the North.   Vikings- the Vikes have made some major moves bringing in Brad Johnson, a lo

I am the penguin queen!

(I am, Joe made it so. )   Right, so just a little update for anyone who cares. I'm still totally swamped but I think I'm calming down a bit. And sorry Michael, but I haven't met a gay guy (that I know of) yet. I'm still sort of getting used to this whole being able to look straight out over the horizon thing. I can't tell you how weird it is to not have mountains. But all the water is awesome, and it's been like 10 degrees cooler here than in WV, and we all know how happy that makes me.

Justin and my 5th "Anniversary", lol

Okay, so Sunday the 27th was exactly 5 years ago that school started in 6th grade and my life was made better by the love and friendship of Justin. We've had some bad times, none of which I'd like to mention were n the B.L. (Before Lorena) days, but yeah. Soooooooo, to honor our little "anniversary", I wanted to do something special. So, I bought this friendship frame at Walmart and then I went back into my photo archive and made a photo collage of photos of him and me together. There were 4 p

I really don't know...

I'm not to sure of what just happened. I mean, I assumed that my mother started questioning a lot of things lately and she probably figured out, but I didn't really know.   She came into my room and just had a rather short talk about god and miracles and then some little stories she had about miracles that happened to her. When she was done with those she handed me a Relic of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos and said that if I said a certain prayer while I held it, then it had a healing power. Sh

Congratulations Columbus, GA!

Yikes, it's been a long time since I've updated this ...   Anyway, so I've been watching the Little League World Series. The final game was today, and Team USA (from Columbus, GA) defeated the team from Kawaguchi, Japan, with a final score of 2-1. I was pulling for the team from Oregon to win (since that's where Kitty lives! ), but they were defeated in the US Championship game. There were a couple really outstanding players from both teams, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them in th

The hazards of sobreity

Coming up Oct. 1st, I'll have been clean and sober for two years.   At first it was really hard passing up the sleezy bars and liquor stores. I really missed going to meet dangerous characters in dangerous allies to buy weed.   Being drunk and stoned was for a while.. liberating. I do something stupid my friends would laugh it off. I was really drunk at the time was like a get out of trouble free card. Sorry I screwed your boyfriend at the party. I was so drunk I can barely remember it.

a bit of the old soul-searching

So I've been doing too much sitting around thinking and not enough working today, and we all know that's not good on several levels. I think I've sort of figured out the biggest part of this general "the world sucks" attitude I've had going for a while, although that doesn't necessarily mean I know what to do about it. The biggest thing, I guess, is being alone, although it's not about the particular person at all, more that I really only had one person who completely understood me, and now I do

We have babies!

Well, Marina surprised me--though maybe not really. I was talking to my mom yesterday and telling her I thought Marina might be close to having kittens since she seemed to be getting milk.   So last night when Pretty Girl decided to try to dig her way through the door to my computer room, I let her in. She is also pregnant and the last time she had kittens she completely surprised me--didn't even know she was pregnant. So just because she doesn't look big, doesn't mean she isn't ready to

ARGGHH!

Well, it's only Wednesday and I feel like I've been here for about a month. This is not due to me becoming used to the place quickly, but to the unbelievable, massive, ridiculous amounts of work I've had to do. I don't think I did as much homework in 4 years of college as I've done this week. Just hours and hours a day, every day, and even then I feel unprepared most of the time. I think I've studied for something like 6 or 7 hours today. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not thinking about quitti

Planetary Follies

Astronomers lean toward eight planets August 22, 2006 Stephen Battersby, Prague NewScientist.com Source Link   Finally, astronomers could be homing in on a definition of the word planet. After a day of public bickering in Prague, followed by negotiations behind closed doors, the latest draft resolution was greeted with a broadly friendly reception. If accepted on Thursday, it would be bad news for Pluto, which would no longer be a full-fledged planet.   The crucial change in "draft

I'm Selling Myself

So my boss is always talking about how our clients don't buy the product first, they buy us first. It's been a slow week. I guess I just need to get out there and "sell myself".   I guess I shouldn't complain though, I've pretty much been taking it easy. It's hard to get back into the habit of working. Especially when I don't have to (I'm an independent, self-employed agent of the company, so unless I do something actively wrong - I. E. damaging to the company - I won't get fired and can
