    Summer Resolutions, Anyone?

    By Aditus

This year I’m going to clear out the shed. I’ll try this long hike someone recommended. I won’t sleep in every day.  I’ll eat healthy, all these yummy vegetables and fruit that are available now. I will finish the story that has been on hold for so long. Summer break starts on Monday, and I have a very long list. What about you? Maybe try to write a prompt story?   PT Prompt #352   Dale bought an ice cream maker, but vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry are just about that

New story being planned for 2026

So, I've written an outline for a new story for 2026. Speculative Fiction, Progression Fantasy, and STEM/Academia Romance   It's been 10 years since I wrote 0's and 1's, but I've still gotten occasional fan mail and people asking me to keep writing the sequel novel, which I had abandoned. It was a different time back then so I just don't have the same thought patterns to write the sequel novel, but I would like to play in the speculative fiction subgenre again. I want to combine severa

Holiday Update 2025

Happy Holidays to everyone! I really miss celebrating Christmas (as a cultural holiday, not a religious one, since I'm not Christian) back in the States. You'll understand why when you read about Colombian Christmas celebrations later on in Medellín. Medellín certainly doesn't have as high a readership as Swing for the Fences, but I'm still relatively pleased with how it's going. I wanted to do something a little different and don't want to be pigeonholed into just one type of story (although I

Medellín and Stealing Home

So, now that Swing for the Fences has ended, my latest novel has started posting, Medellín. It's very, very different in tone and theme than Swing for the Fences was,  but I just ask (and hope) that readers give this one a chance, as it is probably my most personal and favorite story to date that I've written. Very heavy on the teenage angst, with the addition of bullets, bombs, and multiple love interests for Hunter (who is probably one of the most unsympathetic and unlikable narrators I've eve

Understanding the Futility of Mutually Assured Destruction through an old 1980's movie

I was just browing Youtube for something to pass my time on Saturday and came upon a list of Cold War era movies about nuclear annihilation. Like many folks, who were born near the end of the Cold War, I've seen movies like Dr. Strangelove and Day After with the detached thought of, "they're just actors" and "Everyone is being stupid in this movie".  Well, I noticed a movie I never heard about on the list and it caught my attention, since it was co-produced by PBS (an odd choice for an old

Trafficking

This topic seems to be one that dominates my life. I wasn't really trafficked but being sold outright or rented for an afternoon are too close. I've written about sex trafficking in Sold Into Freedom and i read about it from a favourite author, Charles Martin, specifically his Murphy Shepherd novel series: The Water Keeper, The Letter Keeper, The Record Keeper, and The Keeper In the news again is Jeffrey Epstein and his friendships with the current president of the USA and Prince Andre

About the table etiquette lesson in Essence of Life

In chapter 4 of Essence of Life, I wrote in detail about table etiquette. It's actually something I had to learn in business school, which was an insane class back in the fall of 2005. People think of the early and mid-2000s as the second gilded-age sometimes. I sort of agree in retrospect. My freshman class were ushered to our university's executive dining room, then taught a series of lessons on where spoons, forks, knives, and plates are at a "proper" dinner. It's an unnecessary thing to

New Novella- Essence of Life is Live

Here's a link to my new Culinary/Romance Fiction story: Essence of Life This story has been a work of labor for many years. I conceived it back in 2019, but did not publish it as there was a lot of issues and Covid put a damper on things. Though not a long story, it's probably one of the most fun stories I've written about food and restaurant culture.  I hope readers will enjoy it and maybe get a little hungry reading it. Good food like good stories should never be wasted. Bon App

Nifty Archives Not So Nifty

So… the Nifty Archive isn’t feeling all that “nifty” right now. Last Wednesday morning, I submitted Chapter 25 of Swing for the Fences as usual, expecting it to be posted that evening. That’s how it has always worked in the past. But by Thursday, nothing. Other stories had gone up in the Gay Male/High School section, but mine hadn’t. I resubmitted Thursday. Still nothing. Friday came and went. Still nothing. I emailed the archive at nifty@nifty.org AND stories@nifty.org. No resp

Elder Care 102

Warning, somewhat of a rant ahead.  I signed up for this. I knew what I was getting into when I made the decision to move back to Massachusetts and into my mother-in-law's home. My MIL will be 91 in November and has been in a slow, but steady decline over the past few years. We could easily see it whenever we visited.  It starts out slowly. They no longer walk as fast or as far. After a while they are holding onto your arm to go down the curb. Next, they use a cane for anything outside

SFTF Chapters 21 & 22

So, Chapters 21 and 22 of Swing for the Fences have both been posted now, and they're what I would consider "transitional" (and shorter) chapters, giving Nick and Jack some time to "settle in" as new boyfriends and be happy and in love for a little while. But stay tuned for Chapter 23 (which will be posted on Wednesday, September 3rd), as some more "excitement" will come along to challenge Nick and his friends. The second round of revisions/edits for Medellin is taking longer than I expecte

Swinging for the Fences & Other Musings

It looks like it's been about 16 years since I've written a blog here. I guess I'd forgotten they even existed. So, I'm back writing again after about 20 years, with my second complete novel, Swing for the Fences. Chapter 20 will be released on Saturday morning (August 23rd). After that, only 25 more chapters to go. The chapters in this novel are much shorter than I'm used to writing, hence the large number of chapters.  My next novel, which I have almost completed, Medellin, will only have

Pushing past the PTSD I have from applying for jobs as a post-grad in Great Recession America.

So I started the job application process to try and get started on my paralegal career.  I'm not going to lie. I haven't applied for jobs since 2015 and I'm trying to break into a new field. It's really hard not to think about the three years I spent trying (and failing) to break into the museum field when I got my master's degree. In 2015 I finally got real and started working a retail job I've been in since, save for the lost COVID year. Going on the advice I've been given, I'm tryin

Officially a certified paralegal!

Now what?  No clue, but we'll see! I'm leaning towards starting out by applying for file clerk jobs, and see where things go from there. I'd say I'm probably most interested in contracts, torts, or probate.  Now I'm just going to take things in and see where things go.

Sneaky bastards ...

Well, we knew it'd happen. This week, I've been tapped by our CFO to help in a dispute against one of the federal regulatory agencies governing us and our funding. The short of it is this: an audit found they had overpaid us for our lab expenses to the tune of $200,000 a year for five years. In other words, they planned to shave a cool million off our next payment and withhold $200,000 a year from here on. The reasons are utterly bogus. Claiming we're double-dipping. Part of that is cl
