But I will answer some points. By about November 1979, Laura would have been about four months pregnant. Most women would have *just* started showing at four months, and I'm sure she would have been wearing baggy clothing to hide it. My sister hid her pregnancy from all of us until she was in her third month...trust me, it's plausible Laura could have gotten away with hiding the pregnancy all through the summer and early fall. Also, back in the earlier days, it was common for a pregnant teenage girl to "hide" with either a family relative who lived in another area, so no one would know she was having a baby. By about 1979, the shame of being pregnant wasn't that big of a deal, but still, this was Claremont.

 

The United States has a very high teenage birth rate, compared against other industrialized countries. So it's actually pretty common for teenagers to have kids. It's not really something society here approves of, but it's very common. I have several friends from high school who got pregnant while in high school. Coincidentally, we also had "abstinence only" sex education. Draw your own conclusions there.

 

Also, Brad and Robbie could very easily be in the same grade despite being born in different years. In my state, Delaware, the class of 2005 generally consisted of people who were born between September 1986 to August 1987. Those who were born in August 1986 made the "cutoff", so they could have enrolled with the class of 2004. Those who were born in September 1987 missed the Class of 2005 cut-off, so they were enrolled with the class of 2006 instead. I'm applying this to Be Rad- they were class of 1981. On average, that means someone born in 1963, which Robbie had been. However, because Brad's birthdate is late in the year, I'm assuming he missed the cut-off date to be enrolled with the class of 1980, and enrolled with '81 instead.

 

There are a lot of variables here. In my case, I was born in December 1985. A 1985 birthdate would have put me in the Class of 2003, but because my birthdate was past the New Jersey cut-off date, I could not start kindergarten in 1990- I had to wait until 1991 instead. That put me in the class of 2004. Then two years later, my father decided he wanted me to repeat 1st grade, so I got kicked back to the class of 2005. So I was 19 years old when I graduated high school in spring 2005. I had one friend who had JUST turned 17. It really does vary.

Yeah, this was a slutty chapter. I started writing it, thinking here's this guy on the road, he's 18 and so horny he's damn near a sex addict, what would he do? Answer: f**k everything he could. So I reached into my imaginary (shut the f**k up Jeremy) repertoire for some road whore stories. Next one isn't exactly dripping with it (EWWW) like this one.

Otherwise it was good to see Cody again! And without Brian... So it seems that you can see love at first sight but that doesn't mean you'll have it three years later (or when Mark makes another book ;-D) although Brian still works for Stefan. Will we see why is Alejandro single (we missed his weekend ehm... sleepover... with Cody at Alejandro's 18 birthday!), why is Cody single, etc. ? Some sort of update on Family business as we know the Family more than Matt? Ugh... let's wait and see... :-/ I hate waiting.

 

And one more thing - what was that about the journey to LA - in 5 Matt says he'll go Interstate 40 and now in 6 he arrives Interstate 10? Details matter... ;-)

I'm glad you all liked this chapter. Like I said, it's my favorite so far. The only bad thing about "first party" narration is you can't get into the heads of the other characters. I would have loved to have jumped into JP and Stef's brains when they found out they f**ked their grandson! Or maybe Brad's. I think I'd have been like him and just laughed my ass off.

When I write, I make sure my chapters are a minimum length of 12 pages. The only time I vary from this is if it's the last chapter in a story. If there's a lot of dialog, that takes up more room and so it seems shorter. I'm not sure how that compares to other authors, but then again, you don't have to wait 2 weeks for an installment either.

 

 

 

And one more thing - what was that about the journey to LA - in 5 Matt says he'll go Interstate 40 and now in 6 he arrives Interstate 10? Details matter... ;-)

From Chapter 5:

I'm going to head down 77 and catch 70. That will take me through Columbus and Indianapolis. When I get to St. Louis I'll catch I-44. That will take me to Oklahoma City, where I'll catch I-40. That pretty much shoots straight into LA.

 

To get to Montclair, you'd take I-40 to Barstow where it ends by dumping you into I-15. You travel slightly more than 100 miles to get to Montclair traveling by way of I-15, I-210, and I-10. LA is about 50 miles from Montclair. I figured that in a 2500 mile trip to LA, 150 miles away was pretty close, and that a few miles on different freeways counted as "pretty much shooting straight into LA".

That chapter was everything I thought it was going to be.

 

I think you could write 24 pages and I'd still find it short. I know I didn't want this chapter to end. But end it must.

 

Robbie is still in "stunned" mode right now. Who wouldn't be! I'm looking forward to seeing how his relationship with Matt develops.

 

Matt was cool during the whole conversation. Not once did he throw out an apology for his ever-so-slutty behaviour. Nor did he expect apologies from anyone else.

 

Of course, we still have to deal with the issue of, "Oh, btw, dad, could I have one of your kidneys?" Well, Matt's now "family" with all the rights and priveledges of being in the JP-Stefan clan. Actually, no gay boy could asked for better.
