Frostina Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 No need to rummage thru our boxes of trash fiction for this one then and, dont you just me for it? Methinks tis by some dead guy who had English as a fourth or fifth language maybe that's what I would want you to think!
Andy78 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 "The great artists are those who impose their personal vision upon humanity." The line doth not ring any bells. Wouldst the lady fair bestoweth us with a clue?
Frostina Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 ummm... It's written in the late 19th Century. ... in Europe
Andy78 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I'm tempted to plump for something by Victor Hugo . . . erm . . . knows it's not Les Mis and it's not Hunchback of Notre Dame . . . erm . . . Hernani?
Xtro Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 It's Maupassant - but I cheated and went across to Goodreads to confirm it (hey, I'm old - trying to remember things from before most people were born is difficult sometimes! )
Frostina Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Yeah, G. It's him. darn! now, just the book...
Xtro Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Think of something 'soapy' - like Dallas, but set in Europe...
Andy78 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 My knowledge of Maupassant is limited to Day in the Country. Is it Frosty? Please say it is so?
Red_A Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 My knowledge of Maupassant is limited to Day in the Country. Is it Frosty? Please say it is so? No it is not, try again. Isn't google marvelous
Greg_A Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 If it's the book I'm thinking it is, it's named after the two brothers: Pierre et Jean. Am I remembering correctly?
Greg_A Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Love ya Baby Girl! And I would even if I hadn't guessed correctly! So let's try this one on for size: The alarm was blaring at me. I looked blearily at the clock in the dark, its red letters flashing 4:30 am. I groaned and turned it off. I briefly considered blowing off tryouts today, but then brushed the idea aside. I was determined that high school was going to be different, and the first step in making that happen was to get on the cross country and soccer teams. 1
Andy78 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 It sounds like DanK's It Started With Brian, but surely I'm the only person who quotes stories from GA because nobody ever gets them
Frostina Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 lol Andy, you're right! G, we got your strategy!
Andy78 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Well since nobody even got my line from Comsie's GFD Frosty, tis but a sound strategy Let us try this one: "Very soon we'll be eating Lepadotemachoselachogaleokranioleipsanodrimypotrimmatosilphiotyromelitokatakechymenokichlepikossyphophattoperisteralektryonoptokephaliokinklopeleiolagoiosiraiobaphetragalopterygon" NB: 1. That is not a typo 2. Yes, it is one word
Frostina Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 okay Andy, the thing is... i KNOW that word. and therefore.. i know where it is from.. Imma wait for a bit on this one!
Andy78 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Why am I not surprised that the Greek guy, and the person who loves literature by dead guys who couldn't speak English, both know this one 3
Frostina Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Why am I not surprised that the Greek guy, and the person who loves literature by dead guys who couldn't speak English, both know this one 'Cus you us???
podga Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Why am I not surprised that the Greek guy, and the person who loves literature by dead guys who couldn't speak English, both know this one If only I could share this with my mom. Proof that I was actually paying attention in class all those years ago She'd be so proud!
comicfan Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Okay so I am an English major but even I had to read part of this one. If it wasn't for that god awful long word that I recall asking my professor if it was real I'd never remember this one. And yes the Greek guy should know this one. The question is do I answer or wait. And don't count out us American's. We have gotten our educations too! Comedies. Bah.
Red_A Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 well I went to a classic Grammar school so I have read it but what piece and what author, I cannot remember. and the books are so dusty they went out the window.
