Popular Post drown Posted March 16 Popular Post Posted March 16 I promised the recipe! Drown's Paprika Stew with Tofu 🍅🫑🥔 The problem is, I just roughly throw all ingredients together in the largest pot I have, making for a hearty meal, ready in the freezer every time I need it. 😬 So ingredient amounts are a rough estimate. List of ingredients: approx. 800 g of tomatoes, I buy them on the vine. 4 large paprika (bell peppers), preferably yellow and red ones approx. 800 g of potatoes, low starch 2 cloves of garlic 2 onions approx. 300g of firm tofu, smoked tofu if preferred approx. 1.5 liters of vegetable stock paprika powder, sweet paprika powder, rose hot marjoram powder some olive oil salt and pepper Drownish steps: I like mise en place, as I need order in my life, therefore do all the cutting and dicing beforehand. Cut tomatoes, paprika, potatoes, and tofu in bite-sized pieces. Finely dice the onions. Crush garlic and mix with onions. Heat olive oil in a large pot, and saute onions with garlic until your senses tell you, “yeah, that doesn't seem too bad.” Wildly add all the rest (tomatoes, paprika, potatoes, and tofu) to the pot, and then deglaze it all with the vegetable stock. Add as much water as you want, I usually go large here, making it more soupy. Add a huge amount of paprika powder, but be careful of the rose hot one. I usually for for several teaspoons, just to make it all really really red and tasty. Add a teaspoon of marjoram powder. Season with some salt and pepper. Let it cook for 90 minutes. Eat! Stuff in face. Here's a picture of the pot while cooking Going to make the same thing today! 1 5

Still not a huge fan of tofu, but as a diabetic I see its benefits (tim told me to write that). Supposedly, there are benefits. I trust him. Enjoy your food! Edited March 16 by MichaelS36 2 5

To be honest, just buy some smoked tofu, prepare the dish. It'll taste like sausage. And if you really can't help yourself, get some Mettwurst sausage (German heritage and all that), fry in a pan, add to soup. I'd leave out the tofu then, serves the same purpose. Possibly a little richer and more varied in taste, but unhealthier 😛 1 4

I suppose we could have a long discussion about meat but no one will likely change my mind, nor will I attempt to change yours. Enjoy! 1 5

Me and bell peppers have a love/hate relationship... I love to hate them. I've never liked them, nor will I ever. Kudos to those who do... enjoy whatever color you prefer, just keep me out it. Lol I'm also a die hard carnivore like @MichaelS36. Tofu is OK, but not as a true substitute for meat. No matter what you add to it, no matter what form you shape it in... it's not meat. Enjoy your soup! I hope everyone has a good day. I'm getting some packing done. Moving is up there with bell peppers in my life. 1 4

I believe we are meant to eat it, but i don't think it's bad to reduce the amount. I've tried tofu in a variety of ways. I liked some in an awful pad thai; the tofu was the best part. i enjoyed it. I add beans to ground beef to make it better and 'go farther.' I don't see why we couldn't use tofu to do the same. I enjoy non-meat meals and a good veggie burger too. Just eat good food. Thanks for sharing, @drown, i love it! 6

Thanks for sharing, @drown, i love it! I'd try the veggie burger if you make one. It's a known fact I'll eat just about anything. And I'll admit the beef and bean burgers tasted just like all meat burgers to me. I'll try anything once as you know. I did really enjoy the chickpea, spinach and potato stew you made which was meatless. It didn't need more. While I enjoy meat, I can see the benefit of meatless meals now and again. Luckily, I enjoy vegetables of nearly any kind. 3 3

drown Posted March 16 Posted March 16 So I originally planned the soup, remember? All the bell peppers I could find were yucky, so… I introduce you to my casserole: Pasta, meat (fake meat in my case, but just imagine it's real meat if you so desire), sauce, crème fraîche, cheese. I really need to work out tomorrow 🤪 5

kbois Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Kbois Law of Packing states: Thou shalt not open any closed box/container having positively been identified as belonging to one of your offspring when they were young. It is guaranteed to contain something you wish you didn't find. Baby teeth. At least a dozen of them. I did not stop to count. I have no idea which child saved them, but I have my suspicions. 🤦♀️ 5
Popular Post Page Scrawler Posted March 16 Popular Post Posted March 16 (edited) My son is helping me make Italian sausage burgers for dinner, with caramelized peppers, onions and fennel. He'll be turning 12 on the 21st of this month. When my husband and I adopted him, he was only 9. Where does the time go? Edited March 16 by Page Scrawler 6

Popular Post kbois Posted March 17 Popular Post Posted March 17 Wear your green and enjoy a pint if you're so inclined. I'll be packing... again. I may partake of one of my Bailey's flavors from the sampler pack we bought... less to pack up in the long run. Have a good day! 4 2

But if anything burned me multiple times over, I'd also just end the relationship right then and there. 3 minutes ago, Starrynight22 said: I've had tofu before in many ways. I do recommend pan frying, or crisping it in the oven. Texture is important with food and nothing is worse (though that depends on the dish) than soft tofu just thrown into water XD 🧡 5
