There is no such thing as social distancing in any type of close contact sport. Many (but not all) of the college conferences have canceled their fall season, hoping that it might resume in the spring. Most others have reduced their schedules. Regardless of precautions, school age kids, especially high school and college are not mentally or emotionally mature enough to adhere to the protocols in place to try to keep them safe. I see it in my own kid and damn the consequences to me for being a nagging bitch of a mom, I ride his ass to wear a mask when he goes out. The Univ of N. Carolina has already shuttered the dorms and transitioned to online classes after -surprise!- several cluster outbreaks in dorms. This was after a mere two weeks. I am really grateful that this is the year that I finally don't have a child in the school system. My oldest has one semester left, two courses, both of which are being held online. As much as I will miss the atmosphere and excitement of seeing a game and listening to him and the band get the crowd going, I'm happy he decided not to participate this year. Article in the paper today about a healthy normal 19 year old who caught covid and was dead in a week. No underlying issues or anything. So, the thinking kids don't die from it isn't the case. Do you want your kid to be that rare one that does? I do not understand people who refuse to wear masks or think contact sports for their kids is a good idea. 6

That you see or feel differently to me, or other readers doesn't make my work less.. in fact it is more and that is the beauty of art. - tim landon I found that reasoning to be liberating. Poetry ceased being a chore to read, because it didn’t matter that I didn’t get it “right” because I thought one thing while the poet - according to some scholar - thought something else entirely. And, this is how it should be. I’d even go as far as saying with surety more people would like poetry if this were so. 5 3

Seeing someone you love slip away is one of the hardest things to go through. It doesn't matter if it's physical, mental or emotional, it still hurts. I'm sorry you have to go through this Fae. 5 2

Probably why I always had difficulty with poetry. That and the fact that I also don't like to be told what to read. Being forced to read and interpret poetry in school turned me off. Having the choice and the curiosity (plus the 'wisdom' of age) to explore tim's writings allowed me to actually 'get' something from it and that made all the difference. Apparently you can teach an old dog a new trick. 3 5

Frankly, it was pure drudgery in those days. It’s much nicer to read it now. Even if a meaning alludes me, I can still find satisfaction in appreciating the skill of the poet. 4 4

I'm sure you are not this way, but many parents see to think all 'teaching' should be done by the school. While parents have huge opportunities to teach at least the basics ... colours, counting, alphabet and reading. 8

Main reason he will go next year is the social aspect as he's mainly with me or his Daddy. While he doesn't say the color or shape yet, he can match colors and shapes and also knows all the body parts that are a part of the heads, shoulder, knees and toes song. We're just starting on the alphabet, numbers, and more animals. He's smart and i'd be failing him if i didn't work to expand what he knows. 5
