We had a class at Uni on cutting very thin sections for microscope work. The tutor was explaining that the blades are so sharp that you will not feel it. One of the students said “What? You mean like this?” As he ran his finger along the blade Cut right to the bone... blood everywhere... the good news is that he was the only one in the class that got injured that year. He taught a very important lesson 1 3 1

He taught a very important lesson What I remember most about that teacher was that he attended the same physiotherapy sessions that I was attending as a result of breaking my finger when playing rugby. The sessions were a couple of mornings a week just as school should have been starting, and hospital was a few miles from school. His injuries weren't that serious that he couldn't still drive his car, so he would always offer me a lift back to school at the end of the sessions. Of course I never took him up on the offer. I think he understood that, like any typical teenage schoolboy, I wanted to make the most of the opportunity of having a valid excuse to miss as much of the morning's lessons as I could. 5 1
