Popular Post Thorn Wilde Posted March 3, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 3, 2019 8 minutes ago, Randy Wade said: I am buy education a nurse practitioner in psychology Well, most recent child psychology I've read suggests that raising boys and girls differently is where we go wrong. It can lead to behavioural issues in both. Girls are frequently taught to be good and do what they're told, to never act out, to do well in school, to be quiet and calm and cute and pretty. Boys are often allowed to act out more, be rambunctious. 'Boys will be boys'. They are less frequently asked to be quiet. They talk more than girls, are heard more, and people don't even realise because they're so used to it, but they've done studies on this, measured how often little boys talk compared to girls in social settings, and how often they are asked to be quiet. Boys are taught to take up space. Girls are taught to give it. Neither of these things are good. It can lead to a lot of anxiety and feelings of inadequacy in girls, which can then manifest as anger or depression. It can lead to boys falling behind academically, and also to aggressive behaviour. Raise children to be kind, considerate, open-minded, caring, and thinking human beings. Treat them as individuals and raise them in the way that works in order to make good people. Gender shouldn't matter. /rant Sorry. Given my own gender identity and the journey I'm on, I'm very passionate about these issues. I might have figured this stuff out at a much younger age if people hadn't taught me what girls and boys are meant to be like. I wasn't a tomboy. I liked to play with dolls and play dress-up. None of that makes me a girl, as I figured out years later when I worked in a daycare looking after 1- and 2-year-olds and realised that the little boys would fight over who got to wear the sparkly pink princess dress. Because nobody had taught them what they were supposed to be like yet. 3 5

You're not alone in this, you have Josh, the social workers, family and us. Sure, I'm not a mom but I've deal with a lot of kids and saw his they're parents treated them. She might likes princesses, might have picked a princess bedroom set but she's not a princess. Like others have said she's a kid before all. She needs the same kind of treatment, care and love as a boy. With time a stronger/different kind of bond might built between you or/and Josh and her but you'll love her just the same as you'll do her older brother and the son you already have and you might call her your princess. At 4 years old likings can change quicker than the weather! Try not to give in to all of her wants and every demands/tantrums, it wouldn't serve her. Guide her. Also talking, explaining things helps a lot. We might think 4 is too young, but it's important to talk and explain, with simple words and not in detail of course instead of just saying you're too young or even just ignoring her. I'd say until puberty/pre teen time you're safe lol 2 5

[...] I'd say until puberty/pre teen time you're safe lol Same applies to boys of course. Also I'll add, be mindful of pet names/nicknames that might belittle her or might indicate she's not enough, good enough cause she's a girl. If you take a look at pet names often use for kids, boy's pet names tend to imply they're stronger, like their part of the men group, older... I'm thinking of "buddy" "little man"... where girl's pet names tend to be "cuter", softer, more delicate (princess, baby girl, pumpkin (uhm BTW guys how pumpkin became a "cute" pet name cause a pumpkin it big, orange, and mostly use at Halloween to carve in it?!! ) I'm saying that but grandma called me "patate à l'eau" meaning boilled potatoes apparently that's what I was always asking for as a toddler . Grandpa called me "souriceau" meaning little moussy cause he called mom mouse as as a kid she'd eat little like a little mousse . And mom calls me grandma cause as a kid I was often too careful and mindful and slow to do things Edited March 3, 2019 by clochette 1 2 3

She has really dark hair, so it's pretty obvious. But she refuses to dye it or anything, she loves it. And it's gorgeous. Talk about salt and pepper. She's beautiful. Wish people weren't so afraid of ageing... 7
