clochette Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) Things my students said today: This morning I had a little group of students by my desk as I was revising their writing, making comments on what to twist to improve it when my phone ring (it was fave up on the desk right beside me) with an unknown number. Student: "oh maybe that's my dad!" Dude why would your dad call me, your teacher, on my personal phone?! When he realized what he said he was all "yeah nah that would be weird." Yup. Then this afternoon because of the storm we didn't go out to recess, we stayed in the classroom but we still went down to the bathroom. As I was starting to go down the stairs I hear 2 of my students, both 10yo boys, from the top of the stairs: Student 1' "Here hold me" Student 2; goes behind student 1 and hold him at the waist from behind "oh I'm the kind of the world!" Yup they were reenacting the scene from titanic They're so innocently funny and adorable. They're not afraid to hold hands instead of pulling/grabbing each other, saying out loud how they love each other deeply as friends. For a group of 5th graders I love the class climate there is. Sure I worked on it with them from day 1 but it's also coming from them. There's no toxic masculinity, derogatory/slur words used as "teasing" or joking like with most teenagers unfortunately. So yeah I cherish that, it's a little victory that make my heart happy as a teacher but also as an adult watching the next generation. Edited January 10 by clochette 5

Sounds adorable, Tink. Coop is such a precious old soul. But he recently learned a bad word. 1 3
