Anything he writes is worth reading and if you are an author then anything he writes is worth studying. Sequels? Sure, if he has something to share. I can live with letting the story live on in my mind as it is. It is one of the first I recommend when anyone asks me for a good read. I loved it.

I remember when DD first came out, not all the feedback was positive on the DominicLuka yahoo group . It seemed like people enjoyed TLW & TOU more, and didn't want DD to interfere with those other stories.

Anecdotally speaking, it appears that DD seems to be the most popular of dom's first 3 series.

When I asked a friend which Dom story I should start with, he recommended DD. I was certainly not disappointed, but it also taught me that if I start reading one of his stories, I should make sure I don't have anything else planned, because I couldn't stop.....

Being a Dom fan since the beginning, I've only been able to read the chapters as they've been released. There's always been a delay between chapters.

For those of you who've read one of the stories all at once, how does it compare to reading

a series as each chapter is released? Did you find yourself skimming or skipping over scenes (*gasp*, like the sex scenes).

I'm wondering if I've enjoyed Dom so much because there was a gap between chapters, giving me time to build up the anticipation & anxiety.

I read Desert Dropping in one go and found it wonderful. Truth? I thought the ending faltered slightly... like a number of good chapters compressed into a quick explanation. Still a seriously good tale. I have been lucky to read almost all of his stories after completion. I Started his latest work and set it aside. I will read it when he is finished.

I read Desert Dropping over a four/five day period. It was on a trip to the USA -- I started it on the plane and finished it in the hotel room a few days later.

One key thing is that the concept of "cliffhangers" changes when you read a story after is completed. I didn't have to wait to see what happened next and I could just turn the page and keep going. For those authors that have a cliffhanger-addiction, this can make a big difference. In Dom's case, it just provided an incentive to keep reading -- and meant that I had several later nights than I had originally planned :P

I don't believe I skipped over any of the scenes. I tend to read by skimming anyway -- I don't usually read word-by-word, but sentence-by-sentence.

Personally, I find a break between chapters can detract from a story -- I don't have the continuity of mindset that continuous reading gives me. Too big a break, and I've lost the mindset completely. However, I can't sit in front of a computer screen and just keep reading. If I'm going to read a lot, I prefer to have a printed book. When I read DD, I had printed off the first half of the story (I asked Dom's permission first) and while A4 single-sided is not my preferred reading size, I enjoyed that. I then finished reading the story online, but it didn't feel the same. Very enjoyable, but different to reading off the printed paper.

The next time you're visiting the US, you should consider buying a Sony Reader. You can download a complete story to that and read it like reading a book. Unfortunately, they're only for sale in the US.

Thanks, Jim!

I tend to be a bit of a luddite when it comes to technology (despite, or maybe because I work in IT), but this sounds like a worthwhile investment :)

I started reading Dom before DD was posted completely. I think I had to wait for four chapters, so I got a taste of having to wait and anticipate.. lol, but I read the chapters in a span of a week and I don't skim at all so I didn't miss a scene. :)

I read DD way after it was initially posted, so I was able to read it all in a couple of late, late night sittings. A sequel would be fantastic!

Well when I first stumbled upon TOU at Nifty and followed the addy here, TOU was stuck at the end of the Marshmellow scene, DD was on the infamous chapter 8, and TLW was totally complete. While it was definitely TOU that brought me here, and hooked me in, and while I could even argue that it had the most impact on me, I eventually came to like DD better. My favourite though (even among the newer stuff) has always been TLW. It is perhaps not a coincidence that it was the only one that was completely finished and that I was able to set the pace myself.

When I read for relaxation I tend to be a very slow, labourious reader (if that's not a contradiction in terms :P ). I not only read every word but I often re-read especially good/important scenes and sentences and often stop to ponder them. Apart from that I just don't have the ability to get through an entire chapter without getting up a few times anyway. My constant thirst, whinny bladder, and general high degree of distractability ensure that each chapter will take me a minimum of an hour and a half to read (that's about the quickest I've ever managed to get through one), and it usually ends up being more like two hours.

So anyway, it still took me over a week to read TLW, but I think my enjoyment was definitely enhanced by being able to control the rate at which I read it.

Personally, I find a break between chapters can detract from a story -- I don't have the continuity of mindset that continuous reading gives me. Too big a break, and I've lost the mindset completely.

Yes, exactly.

I think DD had too conclusive an ending for a sequel to work well. Maybe Seth buys a new cap or gets a personality or something, but I don't see much of a story there. A prequel about Luke, maybe?

It took me a bit to get into DD in the first place. Maybe I started reading it before I had got over TLW. Eventually I was hooked, though, and right in the thick of the battle of acronyms in this forum. I agree with whoever above said that the ending was not up to the rest of the story.

A sequel about Aaron's experience in the criminal justice system could have some appeal, but probably would be too violently pornographic for Dom's style.

Maybe Dom could do something like ITFB. ITFB, right now, focuses more on Dennis and his ordeals. Sure, there are some parts with Owen and the others, but not as often. And Dennis, in TLW, for lack of a better word, was the bad guy. Just like Aaron in DD.

So maybe Dom could focus on Aaron. After he's out of jail. I read DD a while ago, but I'm pretty sure Aaron didn't murder anyone, right? So maybe he gets out for good behavior or something. *shrugs*

I don't know much about the criminal justice system.

Aaron's not really in Jail, but he's in a hospital near his aunts house. If he were to go in Jail, he would have only been in Jail until he turned 18.

I agree with you though about the Sequel. The only logical Sequel to DD would be a story about Aaron (post hospital stay).

I thought I wanted a TLW sequel, but the turmoil in the ITFB Owen/Aiden relationship really messed up my feelings about the two of them. I think in hindsight, I would have been happy knowing that Owen & Aiden lived happily ever after.

So...

While on holidays the past couple of weeks, I decided to load chapter by chapter to my hard drive and read a chapter (or two) a night of DD.

I must say that I probably read it more closely this time. And totally enjoyed it all over again.

But in truth, chapter 35, when Rory was leaving, really hit me hard. I was sobbing like a baby through most of the chapter (which I seldom do reading). It was probably more powerful this time since losing my mom in the spring. I don't know how Dom can write such moving stuff, but he described a lot of my emotions through Rory to a tee.

As far as a sequel goes....I'm not too sure about the idea. Like some of the comments about ITFB, I think I would maybe like to see a story based on Luke from a first person point of view. It would be interesting to see what influences Rory has had over him in time, and to see if he hooked up with any of the three guys he had over the one weekend. :D Or maybe a new character kinda like Travis, and his interactions with Luke as his bf? Damn, maybe I'm changing my opinion about it.

Well, my compliments to Dom once again for such an excellent story, and I'll leave it up to him to decide if there is a sequel or not.

While I would love to see a sequel (and I think that goes for most of Doms stories anyway) I find that sequels often tend to taint the original. Sometimes the power of imagination and a semi-open ending is all you need. In my mind Rory and seth are fine and any sequel focusses on Luke who finds himself attracted to a completely changed and matured Aaron.

*fels a thousand angry stares upon him* What? everybody deserves a seco... uhm.. thi...fifth... Another chance 0:) It's somewhat similar to ITFB Only Dennis was never as bas as Aaron (or so I think)

Dennis wasn't written to seem as evil but when you think about it he witnessed and (presumably) condoned Ben nearly being killed so...

I would like to see a sequel of DD but only if Luke and Rory got together and i dont think the chances of that are great. Also, in that case I'd feel bad for seth....

No angry stare here! I completely agree with you and love the idea!! I always thought Luke and Aaron belonged together

I'd also prefer if we just left Seth and Rory alone for the sequel.

Hmm, no, I'd definitely prefer Rory and Seth stay together and Aaron and Luke hook up. It just makes more sense to me with regards to all four characters. Luke and Aaron have a history, and some unresolved chemistry, and Rory and Seth are on track and adorable as they are!

Take care and have an awesome day! :D

Ouch, that slap must have hurt. So here's a mega kiss especially for you.:hug:

(((Kiss))) (Sir, you want on the cheeks or... ?) 0:)

I completely agree with you! :D I was hoping for Luke and Rory but I HATE breaking couples. So I would like to leave Rory and Seth alone. And yes, Aaron is probably good for Luke.

Do you think there'll be a sequel? B)

All I saw was a perfectly manicured hand coming toward my expensive eyebrows and then it was all over :boy:

I did find this label on the ground, but it's in Italian so I can't read it!

Hmm, I could be wrong, but as I recall Dom already said somewhere (his blog perhaps?) that he had no intention of doing one. So I don't think so :(

I guess that's what the imagination is for though! :D

I believe he said that he hadn't ruled one out, but that it would be focused more on Luke than Rory. Of course, I could be totally out to lunch here...if I find the time, I'll have a look.
