I have a memory of me.
The me I used to want to be.
The carefree, dancing spirit.
Before life made me, the child, responsible.
Responsible for the care of adults.
Adult worries and issues heaped high.
All done with smiles, in hopes of love, acceptance.
Never given, just labeled a daydreamer.
But, deep in the night, all others asleep,
slipping out the window, to dance in the meadows.
Frolic in the groves, splash in the creek.
Stars and auroras lighting the way.
All grown,
The jester of lives.
The comic relief.
The silver lining guy.
Finding the shreds of goodness
in world of ugly.
Helper for picking up the pieces.
There to cry on.
The ray of sunshine in the darkness.
At the end of the joy, sits alone in the corner.
The universe’s joke.
Thrown away, like papers used as a bird’s toilet.
Thrown away, like broken toys from childhood.
Thrown away, like scraps of a good meal.
Thrown away, after the brightness of new friendship, dulls.
Thrown away like all trash.
No second hand shop for you.
Your usefulness is gone.
We used you up.

Beautiful dreams of when we danced in meadows.
Jarring noise shatters the night.
Unknown number at 3:24am.
The voice, shaky from crying.
Still, one I haven’t heard in years.
Wide awake, a kick to the heart.
I loved you. You are my best friend.
Time, money, distance separate us.
You tell me your tale of heartbreak.
I hold the phone, wishing I could hold you.
Ease your pain, wipe your tears.
But I can only hold you in my heart and listen,
hoping its enough.
No matter how
