The Writer's Life: A (mercifully) short piece on the evolution of storytelling.

You may already be familiar with the world of Pern, as created by Anne McCaffrey, but if you need a quick refresher, here it is.

However, I do feel like trying out my hand at reviewing a popular Medical Global-thriller from 2020 from a Pulitzer Prize winning author. If folks don't like it, I'll just focus on gay fiction only. The End of October is a dark mirror into the current COVID Pandemic, it didn't get everything right, but it is quite scary.

Writing tips

1845. In the spring Redburn leaves Peru for New York on a warship. He has nothing, and feels like a failure. Worst of all is the loss he leaves behind him in the Pacific – his husband is dead, and Toby is lost and presumably long buried. What awaits him in the fall when he arrives back 'home,' to a place he has not been for four years? There he must consider what his brother wants for him, against how Redburn might honor the noblest sacrifices of the men who love him have made.
