Two very different men board the #3 Express New York Subway at the 96th Street station. Their encounter on the crowded train will result in a special friendship and an awakening in the younger one that results in significant life changes.

Wesley Cain is a young and vibrant man in his twenties, he was making his way up in the points at the rodeo. Then his Grandparents died, leaving him their ranch and his younger brother Joseph to watch over. He took his responsibility for his younger brother seriously. The two boys had lost their parents when Wes was a teenager. With his Grandparents gone and no-one to look after his brother or the ranch, he quit the rodeo, and moved back home.

Being the oldest and growing up in a large family can be hard, especially when you are gay and the family is extremely homophobic. You are constantly being compared to your deceased father. A man whose stature and deeds are always increasing, as time goes by, and are held up as your goals. Anytime you reach those goals, your mother moves the goalpost further away.

You never seem to measure up. You are always being told that you are worthless and will never amount to anything since you cannot measure up to your father. It never mattered that you were a straight "A" student and that you were an athlete.

The main events in this story are true; some literary license has been taken with the narrative. George is a 50ish gay guy and this is coming out story and deals with some of his traumatic life events.

I guess it was my own fault for getting mixed up with the wrong crowd, Jimmy, Toddy, Hog and me, we had been sort of friends since entering year eight in high school, I didn’t smoke tobacco or weed like they did, nor did I drink alcohol, and my school mates seem to accept that, and still let me hang out with them at night on weekends.
